Understanding the Risks of Short Video Consumption

Welcome back,
The era of social media where we have been given the idea of short videos was especially introduced to us by TikTok. Later, we saw YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels.

Now, while initially these concepts looked quite interesting and entertaining, over a period of time it has been a blunder, not only when it comes to gathering information but also when it comes to corrupting the minds of children.

Why I am saying this is because today most people have built a habit of relying on short videos because it is just easy to go through them. It takes just 60 seconds to watch a short video and feel like you have learned something.

And while I am not saying that it is impossible to learn something from a short video, I truly believe that deep knowledge cannot be acquired from short videos.

There is also a big problem with short videos, and that is how easily things can be misunderstood, manipulated, and misrepresented in front of you. For example, a complete lecture given by someone on a particular topic can feel meaningful and informative.

But cutting short clips from it and presenting them in front of you can give a totally different meaning altogether. That is where the real problem lies.

The second problem is among the youth, newborns, and especially children below the age of 10, because they are now consuming short content in bulk.

That is why you will see that the majority of influencers are now shifting towards short video content, because that is what is trending in the world. Earlier, people used to make full-length videos because viewers used to watch them.

But now creators know that they just have to create short videos and do something entertaining to grab attention, and that is how they bring out their influencing skills to the world.

I am not against representing skills through short videos, but I think as an elder brother, a father, an uncle, or even as a common human being, it is our responsibility to make sure that people of this era understand that responsibility lies on our shoulders.

We need to make sure that we teach students not to rely on short videos, especially for gaining knowledge.

There is also a right age group for using platforms like Instagram, especially because of inappropriate content being shown many times, where small kids get exposed to content that is not suitable for them.

So maybe we should guide them towards understanding that knowledge is gathered through hard work and time. You have to give time to gain something, and it is not possible to gain deep knowledge in just 60 seconds.

Deep knowledge comes with time, and entertainment is fine. You can use reels for entertainment, but that too after a certain age so that you are not exposed to inappropriate content.

These are just my thoughts and opinions. I know that a lot of people might not agree with me, and that is okay. You can share your views with me in the comments.

Thank You and Happy trading everyone
