The lost value of Education in the Era of Social Media

Hello to my fellow community members,

Friends, when we were kids, we used to have dreams of becoming a doctor, an engineer, a pilot, or a teacher. Education used to mean a lot to us. Without education, being successful was considered impossible. But today, people become successful even without being educated. This is the time where social media is at its peak. It has the power to make people famous.

So friends, today I am going to talk about why I think social media has harmed the education system and the value of education in the last few years.

Now, people get famous just by performing a few dance steps or doing something nonsense, which is probably liked by a group of people or sometimes even by thousands. Then they continue doing the same thing and become more famous. Friends, many people drop out of their education, open a YouTube channel, start selling something, and they get famous. I am not actually against any of this, but the problem is that our young generation is watching these things. They are going to ask us why they cannot be like them, why they cannot also become influencers.

Friends, there is no harm in being an influencer or a creator on any of the social media apps we have today. Friends, the thing which is really important is education. We should complete our education first and then do all these things. Life without education is not meaningful.

I believe education is important, but these trends have lowered its value. Many young kids now want to be gamers. Do not get me wrong, I know they can earn a lot of money from these social media platforms, but in this process they are actually ignoring their teachers and their studies. Let us take the example of a gamer who earns a lot of money.

So friends, while they may succeed financially, they also spend a huge amount of time on digital devices. Because of that, they end up harming their physical health, especially their eyes and maybe even their bones.

And do you know what the real problem is? The problem is that most of the children or the young generation are trying to go into this field simply because they do not want to study. They do not like education. They have a perception about it that they do not want to carry, and many times their parents force them to pursue something they are not interested in. That is why they try to find an easier path where they think they can become famous.

I will share the example of one of my friends who was recently worried and spoke to me. His younger brother is 19 years old. Friends, at first, he wanted to become a cricketer, but later he realized that he was not good enough and that there was too much competition in cricket. So, he dropped out of his education and now he wants to become a fitness influencer because he thinks that is something he can do.

My friend was confused and asked me what he should say to his brother. I told him that he should ask his younger brother about the real reason behind wanting to become a fitness influencer. Why this, and why not something else? Why not complete his education first and then decide? Just listen to what he wants to say and then support him.

I am not against anyone wanting to be an influencer. But if you are doing it only because you do not want to study, then it is definitely the wrong reason.

So friends, the solution, in my opinion, is very simple. It is the responsibility of parents to teach their children why these things should not matter so much in life and why education must be the first priority. Cut their screen time if they are too young. Nowadays, I see even two-year-old children being given an iPad or a tablet. Why do you do that? Do not do that. Do not spoil their childhood. Instead, bring them a bat and a ball. Bring them a basketball, a football. Let them play outside. Let them run in the ground. Let them get involved with toys, not digital devices.

So yes, the solution is simple. Keep your child away from digital devices unless they really need them for education. Give them your time. Take them out to the playground. Let them play, let them enjoy, and make them realize the importance of education.

That is all for today’s blog, friends. Thank you for reading and goodbye.
