Social Media, Childhood Innocence and our Responsibilities as Parents

Hello to my fellow community members,

Friends, in today's blog, we are going to talk about how social media is destroying the innocence of young minds. This is something I am writing after a real life experience that involves some of the kids from my relatives whom I met today itself.

So these kids are just eight years or nine years old and it means that they are not even in their teenage years and they are in the first ten years of their life. Still, I see that they are very much addicted to social media already.

Few of them already have an account on social media and they are uploading reels, they are dancing there. I am not against making content, I am not against learning skills like dancing and singing, but to take your kid at this level at such a young age and motivate him or her to perform for social media for others can actually destroy their innocence.

And once they get addicted to creating content, they are surely going to ask for their personal device. If not a personal device, friends, you will have to give them your device whenever they want it because you are the one who makes them addicted to making such content.

Learning a skill is a different thing and then utilizing it for a platform at a young age is a different thing. Everything has the right age and we should do it when the time is right.

While social media can be used for good things as well, sadly parents today fail to make these platforms available to the kids in a good manner. They are actually using it to harm their childhood and innocence.

They are making their children stay away from physical activities and getting involved in activities where they just have to rest down on bed and keep looking at the screen. By doing this they are harming their eyes, their muscles, and their physical fitness.

There is not even a single benefit apart from one benefit which goes to the parent directly, and that is the peace of mind that they get after they give these devices and platforms in front of the kids.

So friends, if you are a parent, remember that it is your responsibility to raise your children nicely. When I say it is your responsibility, it means that you do not just have to leave them with the digital devices and these platforms because that is harming their future.

It is not only harming their future, it is also harming your old age as well. So make sure that you build patience in yourself when you go for becoming a parent because it is not a small responsibility. Together you have to take this responsibility as a mother and father and raise a child nicely so that he will be an asset to himself as well as to you.

Sometimes they might frustrate you by crying or shouting for some reason, but you have to keep patience and understand why they are doing that. Giving them a social media platform or a digital device just to get rid of their shouting and crying is not the solution.

You are only making them addicted to these things, and whenever they want them, they are going to cry and shout again. This will turn into a loop, a cycle, and you will never get out of it. So friends, make sure you raise your children nicely.

I am not saying that you have to keep them completely away from digital devices and social platforms, but make sure you are monitoring them. Set a proper time for their screen usage so that they do not end up just staring at a screen for hours.
