Rethinking Education in India, Focus on Skills and Relevance

Hello to my fellow community members,

Friends, advanced education is the need of my country right now, especially as the world is moving at a fast pace. I think India, my country, must adapt and improve the education system so that students do not lag behind when it comes to competing with other countries.

Friends, I know that we are still surviving with the current education system, but as a student myself who passed out from university a few years back, I can say that when I met my colleagues from different countries, I could see that their education systems are much better compared to ours.

I am not here to criticize the system, but I believe making improvements to education is always positive. That is what I hope will be done soon.

Friends, In my country, I have seen debates on various illogical and unnecessary topics, but rarely on topics about improving and advancing the education system.

For now, the main improvements are needed in higher education, where a child enters class nine and starts studying with the rest of the students, planning to choose one of the streams after two years.

I think these four years should be the time when students are shown a clear path to follow, because that is what will help them for the rest of their life.

What is wrong is that we are forced to study subjects we do not want to study for most of these four years. Even after entering class eleven, students have to take subjects which are not related to their chosen field.

For example, if someone wants to pursue computer science, they should not be asked to study economics or political science. The core subjects for that person should be mathematics, physics, and computer science.

For someone who wants to be a doctor, the subjects and topics should be related to medicine and biology. In education systems outside India, this approach is more common.

But in India, even after entering university, students still have to study unrelated subjects. In my case, during the first year, I had to study something common for all courses, even though I was in electrical engineering. I did not see the point of that.

While there may be some benefits, I still think it is largely a waste of time that could be better spent learning skills related to our field.

This is why I believe the education system in India needs improvement. I hope someday changes will be made for the betterment of students, and that we will be able to bring out the brightest minds from our country in the near future.

Thank you for reading my blog till the end.
