Your Crypto Is at Risk: SparkKitty Malware Hidden in AI & Trading Apps

Back in 2022 the world got familiar with ChatGPT and that was like a revolution for the people. A chat bot that can help you with almost everything, from writing codes to poems and stories it made things look easy. Today we will discuss few important things to keep in mind while using this bots or apps.
In order to make things easy people are downloading so many AI related apps and software and that is where the problem occurs. The hackers are taking advantage of this and creating apps that are actually targeting crypto users and if you fall for any of them you can end up losing all your money.
This malware is named SparkKitty, and it was discovered by Kaspersky, a company well known for its cybersecurity and antivirus services. Hackers are embedding this malware into AI related apps, which are then advertised across various platforms. Users see the ads, download the apps, and unknowingly put their data and crypto at risk.
Not only the AI apps but there trading and gambling apps where this malware rest and once you download those apps your entire crypto comes at risk. The app asks for access to your gallery and once you allow it, the malware starts scanning and uploading your photos to a remote server.
What I got to know is that this malware search for screenshots of your seed phrase for different wallets and once found they are uploaded to a server. You should always save your seed phrase in more secure way. A separate diary where you should write your seed phrases safely is one of the options.
Seed Phrase : It is set of words that gives full access to your wallet to anyone
In order to stay safe follow these steps:
- Don't download any suspicious AI app that you see on the internet.
- Use authentic known and trusted apps or sites only like Chatgpt, Gemini etc.
- Never save screenshots of your seed phrase.
- If you have screenshots keep them in a local storage separately.
These are few things to take care of and remember that once your seed phrase get compromised there is no way you can save your wallet. Your seed phrase can never be changed and the best you can do is to create a new wallet for yourself and keep it secure.
Last year my metamask wallet got compromised and what I have realized from my personal experience is that you can't do anything to save your wallet. By the time you realize that your wallet is compromised everything gets over. They transfer your funds via a bot and everything happens within seconds.
