MY BEST MOVIE OF 2025

Everyone has a favourite movie. That one movie that just calls to their heart above all others. But for me, I’m afraid not. When it comes to movies, choosing a favourite would be quite hard. As I am a movie freak. I mean, considering the list of movies I love watching and I tell you that list is long. I can't quite pinpoint which one I love more than the other. They are all so good.

However, thinking about it now, out of the numerous movies I have watched so far, the movies that have so far struck me this year more than any other one would be BON APPETITE YOUR MAJESTY.

BON APPETITE YOUR MAJESTY is an historical Korean drama. I am a big fan of historical Korean films. So this happens to be the perfect watch for me. I wouldn't want to spoil this movie for those of you that are yet to see it. All I have to say is you should definitely give this movie a try, especially if you're a gourmet or food lover like me. I promise you it would be so worth your time.

This movie is really an interesting one. Centered around food and the art of cooking. The producers really did a good job on this one. The plot line follows a young five star chef who somehow, mysteriously travels far back in time to an ancient era where the king is a tyrant feared by the people. She warms her way into the king's heart through her incredible cooking skills which no one has seen or heard of before. As she is from the future, she introduces various new dishes that whosoever taste it, marvels at her cooking. From here on, their love story blossoms, but it doesn't come without jealousy, evil plots and oppositions.

One special thing about this movie is how they make the art of cooking look so fun and cool. At a point it becomes a matter of life and death. Turns out royalty takes their meal as seriously as their lives. However, this movie isn't absolutely about cooking. Despite the way they skillfully incorporate cooking into the movie making it magical, it goes beyond that. It teaches a valuable lesson on family, power, betrayal, true love and leadership.

As a female chef who is subsequently made the chief royal cook of Joseon. Yeon Ji-Young faces a lot of trials and opposition. Back in ancient history, it was unheard of for a woman to become the chief royal cook in the palace. But she manages to break the record, and earn the respect of the other cooks in the royal kitchen.

One key features of this movie I really like would be the tasting scenes. It gets to me every time. The visuals and cinematography are amazing I must say. They make each tasting scene so dramatic and overly exaggerated but that is the joy of the movie. Another special thing that gets to me is how each food she cooks either brings one to tears, heals their hidden wound or trauma, makes them remember a loved one or do something remarkable to them. Her meals are not just foods, they are soul lifting and very often touches the heart of whoever eats them.

If you’ve watched this movie before, share with me your thoughts about it in the comment section below.
