More than Just a pocket Money

I am glad to be here once again, sharing a life experience with everyone. It is truly a privilege, and I do not take it for granted.
Talking about my first experience with money brings back memories from my early years. Back then, i used to receive lots of monetary gifts when I was younger, but the experience that stayed with me the most happened during my secondary school days.

I was a student of one of the Federal Government Colleges in my hometown. Back then, students who attended federal schools were known to be disciplined and intelligent. It was every parent’s wish for their child to gain admission, but only those who passed the entrance examinations had the opportunity.

At that time, my school operated a full boarding system. All students lived within the school premises, and our daily activities were guided by strict rules and regulations. One of those rules involved pocket money usage.
On resumption of each term, students were required to deposit their pocket money with the school authority. Each student was then allowed to spend only a fixed amount daily, and spending beyond that limit was not permitted.
Although this rule felt strict at first, it became a powerful lesson for me. It taught me how to plan my expenses, control my spending, and manage my money until the end of the term.
At a young age, I learned the importance of budgeting and financial discipline.

The most memorable moment during that period was when I graduated as the best student in economics. As a reward, I received a monetary gift from one of Nigeria’s prominent banks, First Bank of Nigeria. I was extremely excited because the award came with cash. The amount was ₦5,000, which was a very large sum of money at that time.
That money saved as my first pocket after secondary school, which was reinvested with dividends that i enjoy till today.

That experience changed the way I viewed money and life. It showed me that hard work, discipline, and consistency bring rewards. Looking back today, that moment played a role in shaping my mindset and the person I am becoming.
