Is AI A Tool Or A Threat?

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a topic that has been debated over and over again; people have asked and questioned if AI is a threat or a tool. We all know that whatever has an advantage also has disadvantages; that's just how the world works. I believe the impact of AI depends on how it's been used.

So far from my experience with AI, I would say AI is interesting; it has taken a lot of stress off my shoulders, mostly when it comes to research work. Before the era of AI research, it was kind of stressful, even though at that time I didn't know it was lol.

With AI it's different because I just need to ask the right questions, and all the information will be provided within seconds, and this has saved me a lot of time and effort. There were a lot of times I was stuck trying to work on a project and didn't know how to go about it. AI helped and guided me on how to go about it. I have done a lot of countless tasks with AI. There was a time I wanted to write a well-detailed business plan but didn't know how to go about it; all I did was input some of my business information and ask AI to help me create a business plan.

What it gave me was just so amazing; even the few people I showed were amazed by its outcome. I also recently used it to create a work portfolio; the results were just so superb.

Another interesting thing about AI is the fact that you can chat with it; just like when you give someone a job and they don't deliver the way you want, then you go ahead to give them instructions on what to do, that's how it feels with AI.

However, with how interesting and intriguing AI is, it also has its downside and limitations. One of them is how it has made a lot of people lazy. People have gotten so used to AI giving instant answers and solutions to problems that people no longer engage in critical thinking, and to an extent I am not exempt from this. There was this time I was in a place and a question was asked. It was funny how I and a few others just brought out our phones to ask AI without thinking it out if we could actually answer it or not.

Another thing I don't like about AI, mostly the AI detector, is the fact that it's annoying and not accurate sometimes. I know it's a machine, and it isn't supposed to be one hundred percent accurate, but at least it should do its work. I have had several experiences where, after writing them, I say, Let me use the AI detector to see the outcome, and then it shows me that my write-up is written by AI. At first I thought I was the only one until I read online how other people were also complaining about the same thing. Someone said he lost a job one time because his employer used an AI detector to check, and it showed that what he wrote himself was AI-written.

Since Al has come to stay and it keeps evolving, all we need to do is to harness its potential and work around how to minimize its risk.
