Theme: Tips to Save the Environment and my part in it

When I was scrolling through my Hive feed I came across @finpulse's post about this theme and I decided to make a post about this as well because my usual activity in the evening after dinner is interrupted because Splinterlands maintenance just started so I am unable to play.

Many posts I make here on Hive are Splinterlands related, and the posts that are not are about cycling and this theme touches both of these subjects a little bit.

I live in The Netherlands, and like most country's we have a deposit system for bottles for years already, this has been expanded to smaller bottles and cans three years ago to prevent people leaving them outside. I think it's a great plan and will help to prevent litter in the streets and nature, most people will now take the bottles and cans with them or others (like me) will pick them up when we see them, because now they have an incentive to do so.

In my country the deposit is €0.15 for smaller bottles and cans and €0.25 for 1 liter bottles and up. I think it's a fun way to spend the money I get with the deposits on my favorite game Splinterlands, three years ago I started buying rewards cards with the earnings but after a couple of months I switched to buy the governance token Splinterlands Shards, or SPS. My little project started with just a couple of cents every month but on average I now collect €10 every month. Over the years this has been really helping me building up my SPS stake and growing my accounts plus I have picked up hundreds (maybe over a thousand already) of cans and bottles that would otherwise polluted the planet, it's a win-win activity like this!

On top of this little project it's just the daily things in life that doesn't take much effort but when we all do it hopefully it will make a change, since the Russia / Ukraine war started and gas got really expensive in Europe, we decided to cut gas as much as we can to start cooking and heating the house with electricity instead of gas, this has reduced our usage by 90% and now we only use around 15m3 of gas every month for the shower.

To be honest this was a financial reason in the first case but still, every little bit counts. 🙂

Thanks for stopping by and let me know what you're doing!

Thank you @nozem01 for finding my blog useful. We should be considerate about our planet and keep the environment as good as it can be for people.
