Splinterlands - Why Spellmonger Is Perfect for Low Mana Cost Battles with Shades of Gray Modifier

Greetings to all the readers here

Here I am sharing another Splinterlands battle, but this time with something new.

Recently, I reached Silver League 3, and after that, I started experiencing battles with special modifiers. This was something new for me, and I was really excited to explore it.

In the screenshot below, you can see a battle where I was allowed to take monsters only from the fire or water element, and on top of that, I could only use neutral monsters.

This made the battle quite difficult for me because I had never played with this type of modifier before. The name of the modifier was Shades of Grey, and under this modifier, the battle started.

When I looked at the battle lineup, I quickly realized that my monster arrangement was not correct.

In the screenshot below, you can clearly see that my opponent placed the monsters more strategically, especially the last monster, which was a magic attacker.

In my case, I placed Spellmonger at the end, which was not the best decision for this particular battle.

Even though I lost this battle, I give full credit to my opponent for playing it well and arranging the monsters correctly.

Losing this battle helped me understand how important monster positioning is, especially under special modifiers like Shades of Grey.

Now let me talk about the second battle I played today, where I was able to secure a victory. In this battle, I went against the fire element, and it was a low mana cost battle with a total mana limit of 25.

Because of the low mana, my team was small, and I decided to use Spellmonger again, placing it at the end with the hope that it would help eliminate some enemy monsters.

I placed Twice Yester Knight in the front position because, in my opinion, it is one of the best defenders for low mana battles. I also used Sherringham Logger, which comes with the sneak ability. This was the basic structure of my team.

As the battle progressed, you can see in round 2 that one of the opponent’s monsters was eliminated.

This did not happen because I attacked it directly, but because Spellmonger caused damage through its ability, which slowly drained the enemy’s health.

By round 3, the battle was down to 2 versus 1, and at that point, my victory was almost guaranteed.

The opponent had only 3 health, while my monster had 8 health and 4 armor, giving me a clear advantage. As expected, I won the battle.

I must mention that Spellmonger was the main reason behind this victory. Even though it costs only 4 mana, it can have a huge impact if used correctly.

This battle taught me that monsters placed at the end of the lineup can be extremely powerful if you understand how to use them. Below are also one of my daily rewards.

So, If you learn how to utilize such monsters properly, especially in low mana cost battles, you will find that these battles become much easier to win.

That is all I wanted to share from today’s Splinterlands gameplay.

Thank you.
