Child Psychology - Comparison Breaks Confidence
Assalamu Alaikum,
In this blog, we are going to talk about child comparison, which is one of the biggest problems among parents today.
People think that they are doing something great when they compare their children with other children.
But believe me, that is the worst thing you can do, especially if you are doing it in front of kids.
Comparing your child with someone is only okay if you are doing it at a personal level, just to make sure how you are going to approach and help your child improve in whatever way or in whatever thing you want him/her to be better at.
But the moment you start comparing him or her in front of everyone with others, that is the time you start to lose your bond with your child, and you also start to demoralize the child.
His morale goes down, and he becomes underconfident. He is not able to express himself well in front of others.
The reason, the root cause behind this situation, is the parents themselves. It is the harsh reality that most parents don’t know this today.
The reason is simply because they are looking at only one side of the story which is the parents side.
While they think they are doing it for the betterment of the child, the reality is that it is not actually benefiting the child.
The child demands love. The child demands continuous growth in whatever he is doing. And for that, he needs parents’ support in different ways.
You have to live the journey that the child is going through. You have to go through the same things.
You have to show him that you are also struggling to learn something. And that is how the child actually connects with you.
So promise yourself that if you are a parent, you are never going to compare your child with anyone else, no matter if it is studies, height, weight, color, or anything. Because that is where you break the confidence of your child.
So promise yourself and if you are not a parent, then promise that once you become a parent, you are going to practice what I have taught you in this blog.
