My Honest Advice to Anyone Starting Out on Hive.

I wouldn’t say I’m the best at giving advice--honestly, I’m still learning myself. But after spending over a year here on Hive, I’ve picked up a few things that I believe could be helpful to anyone just starting out. I’ll simply be sharing from my own experience, hoping it helps someone else along the way.

The first advice I’d give is: don’t let other people’s earnings get to you. I know it’s hard, especially when you see someone post something and it gets a lot of votes, and then you compare it to your own post that probably took more effort but didn’t do as well. There were times during my journey when I felt discouraged seeing the rewards others were getting. It made me question myself and even think of quitting at some point. But with time, I realized that it all depends on how you choose to see it. Instead of getting discouraged, let it motivate you. Learn from them. Study their writing style, see how they engage with the community, and try to improve your own work. Everyone’s journey is different, so just focus on becoming better with each post.

Another piece of advice I’d give is: always remember why you joined Hive in the first place. For me, yes, making money was one of the main reasons, and that’s completely valid. But I also came here to connect with people, learn new things, and express myself freely. If your only reason for being here is money, it might be hard to stay motivated when things don’t go as expected. So whenever you feel like giving up, remind yourself of your purpose, and keep pushing.

There’s also something else I struggled with at the beginning—entitlement. I used to feel like I deserved more votes just because I posted something I thought was good. And whenever I didn’t get the kind of attention I hoped for, I’d feel bad. But the truth is, Hive is not just about rewards. So just try to treat it like other social platforms—share, learn, interact, and enjoy the ride. The rewards will come with time, but even without them, there’s still value in the community, the friendships, and the growth you’ll experience.

Lastly, try to power up some hive. I was actually very consistent with powering up when i first got here, and i literally even converted some of my posts to 100% power-ups. Although i don't power up as much hive as before, and i am also not a saint either because I have powered down twice. But then i believe these are things curators and whales look out for. In fact, there was a time when curators like "galen" were strict about supporting only users who have their hive powered up and left something in their wallets.

Moreso, there’s now a “coefficient” system that shows how much you power up versus how much you withdraw so it's easier for anyone to know how much you have chosen to give back to the community. Right now, mine is about 1.70, which I think isn’t bad.

So, in short, just stay true to your goals, don’t compare yourself too much, be patient with your growth, and try to give back to the platform in your own little way. Hive indeed rewards consistency and contribution—so just keep showing up, and over time, things will start to fall into place.

Thanks for reading. I hope this helps someone out there.
