The world is filled with so many distractions. One moment, you are engrossed with work or any other thing and the next moment you get distracted by life’s difficulties. These distractions can come in different forms; they can be physical, emotional, or mental. We live in a world where there are so many cars, trucks, and heavy vehicles emitting smoke. That moment when you want just a few minutes of peace and quiet, you get distracted by cars honking or crazy drivers showing their craziness. Distractions can also be emotional. The rate at which people experience struggles in friendships, relationships and more importantly, marriages, is quite alarming. Every day, I hear stories of couples getting divorced due to various issues. In my opinion, emotional distraction is the most difficult type to deal with. This is because it is not physical, it is something that is eating you up from within.
In a world filled with many distractions, it is important to learn how to stay focused. The truth is that distractions are a part of life, at least in this century. Whether we like it or not, they’ll always show their ugly faces. It is even worse when distractions come at the time when we are least prepared. For example, the director of a particular company is a married man who has been married to his wife for 5 years. One day, he finds out that their only kid is not his. Then, he starts losing touch with reality and zoning off at work. This distraction can make him lose his job. It is important to learn how to tackle distractions. For this week’s India United prompt, the community asks us how we stay focused in a world full of distractions.
For me, one of the ways I stay focused is to write down my goals in a diary. Merely writing your goals down in a diary or a sticky note sounds insignificant, but trust me, it goes a really long way. When I was little, my mom and I would often go to the market together. And I noticed that each time, she would always forget at least one thing. If it was something very important, she would go back to buy it. This went on for years and years until she thought of an idea: writing a list of things to buy. About two days before going to the market, my mom would start writing the list of things to buy and that way, she never forgot to buy anything. My mom is a very busy person. She often gets distracted by church, work and other things. However, that simple list helped her stay focused. Today, writing a list has become a part of her.
Writing my goals in my diary helped me throughout my journey in school. You see, my diary is one of my favorite possessions. Whatever I write in it must be carried out. It is like a ritual. For example, if I write “read 2 books this week” in my diary, I must complete that task. Every other thing would feel insignificant until I do so.
Another way to stay focused in a world full of distractions is to have an accountability partner. Luckily, I have someone like this. Someone who motivates me to achieve my goals. About two years ago, my life, especially my Hive life, wasn’t as organized as it is now. I found it extremely difficult to blend school and work (Hive). So, whenever school was in session, I would take breaks off Hive. There was a time I took a 4-month break off Hive. I didn’t come on Hive, not to talk of making a post. I used to think it was impossible to blend school and Hive. However, ever since this particular person came into my life, things have become way easier and organized. Throughout my session last year, I never missed a posting streak. It also became very easy for me to smash through my goals.
It's also important to teach your brain to multitask. Life is noisy. One moment, you're busy with one particular thing, and the next moment, you have to drop it and do another. Teaching your brain to multitask isn't something that happens overnight. It requires patience and consistency. This is something I haven't really learned how to do yet, but I hope I'll master the art soon.

Focus requires discipline, distraction hold you back.
I find it hard to make a copy of my goals, the live in my head and reminds me always of the tasks to do for the day😅
