The word success is a word that means different things to different people. My opinion about success might be different from another person. I've had a conversation with friends sometime ago regarding their view on success. One of them told us that to him, success is the amount of wealth and possessions he will gather in this life, the others said it is the fame, power, influence or position in society, just like a celebrity. Well, everyone is entitled to his/her opinion.
For me, however, success has a deeper and more personal meaning. I define success as doing the best I can, with what I have, from where I was, overcoming failure on the road to my achievements. Success, to me, is not about my status in life, the wealth and possessions but about the difference I make in people’s lives and the joy of finally reaching victory after many trials.
I realize that not everyone starts at the same point. Some are born into privilege homes, while others begin their journey with little or nothing. But starting small does not mean one cannot end well. Success for me is not measured by how far I have gone compared to others, but how far I have come from where I started. If I was once struggling in darkness and now I can light a candle for myself and others, that to me is success. It is about not comparison, wealth pr possession but it's about personal growth.
I also define success as doing the best I can with what I have. Life may not give me all the tools I desire at once, but if I use the little in my hands wisely and faithfully, that is a step toward success. Too many people waste time waiting for what we called perfect conditions, but success is about moving forward despite the imperfections, making the most of every opportunity, learning from mistakes, and gradually building a life that reflects determination. In this way, success is less about what I lack and more about what I do with what I already have.
Of course, failure is part of the journey. I believe that true success cannot exist without some level of failure. Every failure is like a teacher, showing me what does not work and pushing me to try again in a better way. Overcoming failure is, in itself, a form of success because it proves my resilience. It shows that I refuse to be defined by setbacks but by how I rise after falling. The victory at last becomes sweeter when I know what it took to get there, the tears, the doubts, the rejection and yet the courage to keep going. That victory alone is not just a personal win but a testimony to others that success is possible even against the odds and failures.
I do not see success as something I keep only to myself. Success is not just about me or my position in life. It is about the difference I can make in the lives of others. If my journey inspires someone else to keep going, then I have succeeded. If my little achievements open doors for others or bring light to someone’s dark path, then my success has a purpose.
One thing I always put in mind is that, I know that the titles, the money, the fame and recognition may fade away with time. People may forget the status I held or the possessions I owned, but they will always remember how I touched their lives. Success for me is a legacy that I will keep. The stories people will tell of how my life brought change, touched them and encourage them. That is why I see success as the difference I make, no matter how small.
