So, it’s been a week of me writing about various aspects of Hive. First, it was my onboarding challenges, and now I'm offering advice to newbies. I love sharing my experiences about my journey here, as you don’t know who might be reading or who it might be helping out there.
What are the advices you will give to the new user on hive ?
As you continue to navigate the platform as a newbie, you’ll find so many valuable information out there to guide you. All you have to do is pick the ones that you can, learn from them, and incorporate them into your Hive activities.
My first advice to a newbie is to avoid comparison.
It will interest you to know that you and your friend can join Hive on the same day and at the same time but your results will be different. There are so many factors that contribute to your results being different. You might think that you both are putting in the same effort, but I tell you, you both aren’t and sometimes one of you might get lucky, and it just might be smooth sailing for whoever gets lucky.
Comparing yourself with others can hurt you more than you think. I know it’s very easy to say but difficult to do as their progress is in your face but just save yourself the energy of feeling bad.
One thing I know about Hive is that we all have our time. Once the timing is right, everything begins to work and make sense, but would you stick around long enough until it’s your own “time?”
Comparison and jealousy don’t cut it, but learning from these people does. I’m not saying that you should follow them blindly, just learn a thing or two from them and incorporate them into your Hive activities. Be motivated, don’t be jealous.
The next on my list is stop KISSING PEOPLE’s ASSES!!!
Yes, engagement is key, but that doesn’t mean you should go around kissing peoples asses.
Not everyone appreciates people who try to kiss their asses. Be yourself, make thoughtful comments, and be consistent, it will pay off.
A lot of people think trying to kiss others’ asses will make them like you or get you larger upvotes but it doesn’t. People see right through your actions and are more irritated than appreciative.
People will like you for being yourself, so just do that and trust the process.
Furthermore, never look down on Hiveans with low stakes.
This is one aspect of Hive most people overlook. Some people tend to treat Hiveans with higher stakes a lot better than the ones with lower stakes, which isn’t surprising as we tend to see this outside of Hive too.
People tend to be friends with mostly the big guys, which is cool, but as a newbie, looking down on Hiveans with low stake is wrong.
So here’s my advice: balance the equation, be friends with both categories of people.
Do you know one thing about being friends with people with low stakes that put in the work? These Hiveans will guide you. They might not have all the stakes, but most of them have the time to give you updates as they too are growing their account.
They are the ones in every contest tagging you, nominating you for prizes, in your DMs introducing you to various ways to earn and enjoy the blockchain.
In conclusion, you need them too, more than you think you do. Grow with them and the higher you get the more you’d be grateful for their friendship.
While some of the big guys do all of these sadly not many of them are very active enough to always be there.
So, do not look down on anybody on Hive. You just joined the blockchain, connect with as many people as you can, explore, earn, and enjoy, but do all these by obeying the rules of the blockchain.
