Where My Heart Finds Rest

(edited)

When life comes at us too hard and the noise of the world is becoming so unbearable, we all seek where there is peace and where we can breathe again. For some, it's through a long walk; for some, it's by going to the beachside to catch that cool breeze; for some, it's reconnecting with the people they love; and for some, it's revisiting the place where they grew up. We all have different approaches to this. To seek comfort, it is always something around us and not so far away, and to me, a place of comfort is where I feel so understood, safe, comfortable, and calm. A place where my heart finds solace.

Personally, when I look at it, those ordinary small places of life, that is where comfort lies. A lot of friends usually ask why I like staying in my room. And this is because, my room goes beyond a four rectangular or square walls; it is where I take charge of my things things, where I keep the world mute, where I can comfortably have my eyes closed, where no one can question me, and where I can easily be myself without anyone having to condem me. Most often, I do not say a word to anyone; I am just by myself all day. Sometimes, I am the loudest person; I turn on my Bluetooth and blast some nice music, and I cherish every moment because I realize that all my thoughts untangle one after the other so easily. My little space has become more than just four walls, now my therapy zone, my little heaven in the world that is filled with unending problems.

I have heard that we humans are shaped by our environment, and our environment has a huge impact on us. Well, I believe this in a way: we are not robots, and this is one of the reasons why you and I need a place where we can easily ease our stress and get ourselves recharged again for the next step ahead. Some people do this by just staying in their compound to enjoy the cool evening breeze under the tree just like the way I am right now, or enjoying their favorite meal with the people they like. In my culture and the way I grew up, I have come to realize that we attain this level of comfort when we laugh together, share what we have together, including food, and even gather together in the night outside to share life situations with one another. In that moment, there is always a relief, and we are always reminded that we still have our brothers and sisters with us-not alone no matter the challenges that we are facing.

Like I was having a discussion with a friend this afternoon, it had been like two days since I heard from her, and she said she is facing life and that all is well now. I told her that life is filled with ups and downs and some unexpected challenges, but those phases will all pass. Problems that we are not expecting will come knocking, house rent will be due, and a lot of overwhelming situations will come. But having a place to run to for comfort during this period is like having a soft bed and a very fluffy pillow where you can always rest our head. Though the challenges might not suddenly go away, at least we are being reminded that we need to regain our strength to come out strong.

So, to this week's prompt, my humble take will be that having a place where we feel comfortable goes far beyond location, but it is all about that inner true feeling. It is where I find the peace in my soul. For some, it's going fishing; for some, it's reading a nice book; for some, it's through singing; for some, they find it in prayers; for some, it's watching sunset and sunrise; for some, it's nature watching. But personally, I find peace in that space that I can call my safe haven, where I find the motivation, courage, and strength to face tomorrow, where I heal, and where I rest.

Here the link to participate in this week's prompt.

Eggxactly..... Inner joy and peace most times, tend to come from the littlest of things.
Just like you, my room also happens to be my best place to be, all by myself without any he or she to bother my life. I've grown so attached to my room such that a day away from it leaves me restless.
