To be sincere, money has different uses, and it has an unimaginable way of shaping our existence as humans. In my country, I can say that it is all over, from parents trying to pay the school fees of their kids to university students trying to manage the pocket money sent from home to daily manual laborers waiting to get paid at the end of their work to passengers arguing on how much change he will collect from the bus driver.
There is no blessed day that we will not have a discussion about money and how much we spend, but here is the real question, as this prompt has stated: how much do we really need to stop us from bothering and live a free life?
When you ask some sets of people about what freedom is to them, it is all about eating three times in a day without being concerned about tomorrow. For some, they have the capacity to send their kids to the best schools in town. A government worker who is working for a university in Ilorin and collecting N150000 per month will feel like it is a comfort, while a business mogul somewhere in Kano state might say that he is not yet satisfied until he starts profiting the sum of N6 million in a month.
And anytime we talk about the word enough, to me it means different things, and to those who are reading this, it means another thing entirely, and this can be as a result of the place we live in, our exposure, and our lifestyle.
And another thing that I have come to realize in life is that comparison is a joy taker. No matter the level of your attainment in life, anytime you start to compare yourself with other people around you, that is when you start caging yourself and limitations start to set in.
It is not until you have a very fat account that you can have peace of mind; in fact, you can have little and still be happier than those who have it all, and that is called satisfaction and contentment because you have learned to appreciate and value what you have, knowing fully that money cannot buy joy and health.
Maybe what we should be saying is that when we have enough money, we worry less about debt, and we focus more on taking care of our loved ones because we have no issues about money again.
Thank you for reading.
