Success: More Than Just Money in the Bank

Majority of the people I have come across, when you ask them the meaning of success, what you will hear them tell you is something like having big mansions, driving costly cars, money and maybe having this high title in the community. Our culture and tradition has conditioned our minds to always have this mindsets that success is nothing more that fame and riches. But do you also believe this as the truth?

Personally, when I hear the word success, it runs a deeper meaning than what a lot of people refer to it as. It is about having a peaceful life, living a meaningful and life of purpose, and moving forward in things that really matters, what so ever I'm doing no matter how slow it might look, steadily and a step at a time. Success to me can be something so little as letting go of someone who might have hurt you in the past or deciding to build something meaningful for yours and interest of others from the scratch. But the truth of the matter now is that, success is something very personal, we all have a different mindset towards it because what I am celebrating as a success might not be a success to another person reading this post and I accept, because that is totally okay.

Looking at things from the psychological aspect, we humans, we were created in a way that we measure ourselves against others. Society, family members and with all the things we now seem on the social media, a certain pressure has been mounted on some people that they must meet a particular standard, like have a standard job, children, getting married, achieve something at a particular age. But to me, this is another form of slavery being displayed to us because a lot of people are doing things they do not enjoy and what is living life without enjoying it, going after goals that they are not happy about just for them to look like someone successful to the society. Life is for the living and having a successful life is doing life your way, your term. What is my gain if I am unable to do that.

For me, what I also consider success is when I wake up everyday and I feel blessed and happy for the path that I am on. When I sit down and reminisce shout things of the past and I am happy, even when work is still in progress in my life. It is when I am able to contribute meaningfully to the life of others even in the most minute way through my act of kindness, caring, giving my time, sharing my ideas and through words of encouragement.

I always remind myself everytime that failure means I am trying and a step closer, not that I am not good enough, celebrating all my big and small wins, this is what I often do and it has been helping. And I am always grateful for everything because gratitude is a must and a key to receiving more. And most importantly, I do kill my dreams by comparing myself to others, I only learn from them.
