Hustle No Be Beans

Where I come from, going after money, or let me say looking for money, is more or less like pursuing after an empty air; you work for it, you see little, but it does not last. We all are always praying to get that available and sufficient balance, but everywhere is filled with responsibilities upon responsibilities and “Bro, can I get 2k from your hand?” here and there.

One of the former presidents of my country once said that we Nigerian youths are lazy, but the truth is that we are not lazy; most of us are even working harder than our forefathers did, but inflation and the government have failed a lot.

I have some of my friends who are working legitimately day and night, under the sun, some doing the online work, but the challenge is that our system is working against us. Clients cut off gigs once they discover that you are Nigerian, wobbling electricity, the naira and dollar always doing like cat and dog, and even before the month cuts into half, salary is gone.

I have come across people who are involved in a lot of jobs, from one business to another, but looking at them is a real definition of struggling, suffering, and smiling. At times, I just look around, and it is as if we are running on a point. Working but nothing really to show for it—that is the reality of most people in my country. And yet, I see everyone wake up daily to chase that daily bread. We keep thriving, we keep having faith, and we keep praying to God for better days because at times, keeping our hope very high is the best we can do.

In my country, earning money has gone beyond what we went to study in school; it is now about our digital skills, what we can offer, our hand skills, and being creative. I swear that it is not easy, and this is what most people will say, but still we must celebrate our little wins because they matter a lot.

In Nigeria, it might be very different to see money, but we keep trying every blessed day because one thing I know my people for is that we never give up even though the win might not come instantly.
