When people talk about becoming great in life, it always sounds big and loud. Like something that comes with attention, money, and people clapping for you. But if I’m being honest, the feeling of becoming great is not always like that. It’s much quieter than I expected.
There was a time I thought greatness meant reaching a certain level where everything becomes easy. No more stress, no more doubt. But life has shown me something different. The journey to becoming better is full of small, unnoticed moments.
Sometimes, the feeling comes when you look back and realize you handled something better than you would have before. Maybe you stayed calm in a situation that would have made you angry. Maybe you didn’t give up on something you once would have dropped. Those small changes don’t look like greatness from the outside, but inside, they feel important.
My parents never really used the word “greatness.” They talked more about growth. My father would say, “Just be better than you were yesterday.” At that time, it sounded too simple. I wanted something bigger. But now I see that becoming great is not one big moment, it’s many small improvements adding up.
There are also days when the feeling is not there at all. Days you doubt yourself, question your progress, and feel like you are not moving forward. I’ve had those days. Plenty of them. And in those moments, greatness feels far away. But I’ve learned that those days are part of the process too.
What surprises me the most is that becoming great is not just about achievements. It’s also about how you think, how you treat people, and how you carry yourself when things are not going well. My mother used to say, “Character is louder than success.” I didn’t understand it fully before, but now I see how true it is.
The feeling of becoming great is not always exciting. Sometimes it’s just calm. A quiet confidence that you are trying, learning, and not giving up.
I’m not there yet, wherever “there” is. But I can feel small changes in myself. And maybe that’s what it really is… not becoming perfect, but becoming better, little by little.
And honestly, that kind of greatness feels more real.
