More Than Just Food : A Skill That Changed My Life.

One skill that really changed my life is cooking, I am not kidding when I say this, If you knew me years ago especially when I was a teenager you would understand how big of a deal this was to me, Then I had a hard time making my own meals, I always relied on whatever was at home or I bought food outside, If there was nothing to eat I would just deal with being hungry, and probably eat something I didn't like, It was really frustrating, then i didn't think much about learning to cook.

Then something happened that changed my mind completely

I remember being so hungry one day and there was food stuff at home, I didn't know how to make a good meal for myself but I decided to try cooking, sincerely it was terrible, that moment annoyed me because I realized that the problem wasn't that there was no food at home.
It was that I didn't have the cooking skill, and that's when I decided I was going to learn how to cook.

Yeah, at first it was not really easy at all, then the cooking looks simple when someone else was doing it, but when I was the one doing the whole measuring ingredients too controlling heat and trying not to burn food then I realize that it is not to be in the kitchen cooking especially when you are doing it for more than one person, yes I certainly i made mistakes, sometimes the food was too salty, sometimes too bland sometimes overcooked..b ut I kept trying,I watched people cook, asked questions and practiced whenever I could.

Then growing older and having my own kitchen equipment really helped me, having the right tools made it easier and also more fun, I started trying meals and over time I got more confident, what used to stress me out became something I now enjoyed.

The biggest change cooking brought to my life was independence, I could eat what I wanted when I wanted to, without relying on anyone, It also helped me save money because buying food outside is quiet expensive.

So as a man this skill has been super helpful, there is a stereotype that cooking is mainly for women but honestly knowing how to cook is just a life skill, hunger doesn't care about gender, and one's cravings too don't care about gender either, being able to satisfy your cravings without waiting for someone else is a great feeling.

Cooking also boosted my confidence, in areas of life, It showed me that any skill can be learned with patience and practice, youu just need to start, make mistakes and keep getting better.

Yes I'm better at cooking now but still trying out recipes, new techniques and sometimes it might not turn out as Imagine, and other times it comes out better, now the difference now is that I enjoy the process.

Learning to cook didn't just change how I eat, and honestly that is a skill I will always appreciate.

Honestly, when you know how to cook it gives you the liberty to eats whatever you like and at whatever time. You determine what goes into your stomach and that's

I totally agree with you. Although I'm not good at cooking, there was a time when I used to cook my own food. With those basic skills, I survived two years working in remote areas. In my opinion, it's a life and survival skill that everyone should have at least at a basic level.

I agree buying prepared food from outside is more expensive. Cooking can also help you relax from the stress of the day by taking your mind off of it.

I'm grateful that I've loved to prepare and cook food since I was a child, and I agree, knowing how to do so is an essential life skill that everyone should know how to do well. I love making super delicious, and nutritious food! 😁🙏💚✨🤙

Oh yeah... I really would love to try out a lot of recipes

That's great. I occasionally use recipes as springboards to create my own version. Usually I don't use recipes or measurements, but rather I do everything by eye, taste, and intuition, and it works quite well indeed! 😁🙏💚✨🤙

Agreed @cohlson everyone should learn to cook even if it is just the very basics
I would also like to point out that in the catering world it is mainly a male dominant industry.

Most of the top chefs around the world are male, i just think the role falls onto women at home because they have to feed the family more than the man does, but as a career it is mostly men.

Funny thing perception which obviously differs depending which part of the world we live.

have the best day

I recently saw a meme like that, that men only love cooking when money is on the table... Lol 😂
