Ubuntu 26.04 LTS Released! How to Upgrade from 24.04.

Recently on 23 April 2026 Ubuntu released the next version Ubuntu 26.04 LTS Resolute Raccoon, Everyone was waiting for this release. It's has 5 years of standard support and upto 10 year support in Pro version.

Ubuntu 26.04 LTS requirements for installation.

Ubuntu 26.04 LTS is now heavier than Windows 11.

Ubuntu 26.04 LTS Resolute Raccoon requires minimum 2GHz dual-core processor, minimum 6GB of RAM and 25GB storage.

Windows 11 requires minimum 1 GHz dual-core CPU, 4GB RAM, and 64GB storage

What's new in the upgrade:-

There are many new features and improvements in the upgraded version, but I’m sharing some of the most important ones.

Most important is the security, it's now support TPM-backed full disk encryption and post-quantum SSH.

A good news for Linux gamers, now it's wine support with Prton performance with NTSYNC

Also a big improvements in ARM support, upgraded with Snapdragon X Elite & ARM64 desktop ISO

Also implemented in the terminal with Modern minimal UI, Faster rendering, multi tabs etc.

In the new terminal now show asterisks (*) while typing the password or a subtle visual indicator instead of showing nothing at all, this is also a big implemented.

How to upgrade Ubuntu 24.04 LTS to Ubuntu 26.04 LTS.

Here are the process to upgrade:-

1. Open the terminal and update the system type -

   sudo apt update
   

2. Upgrade your system type -

   sudo apt upgrade -y
   

3. Run the full upgrade command type -

   sudo apt full-upgrade -y
   

4. Remove the unwanted tools, type -

   sudo apt autoremove -y
   

5. Now upgrade the Ubuntu version type -

   sudo do-release-upgrade -d
