How Do You Utilize Your HBD – Save, Spend or Strategy?

HBD is one of the most powerful assets on the Hive blockchain. HBD means Hive Backed Dollar. It is therefore a stablecoin of the Hive blockchain which is pegged to the US dollar and which provides users and creators alike with a stable medium for transactions and DeFi activities within the Hive blockchain.

Over the years creators on the hive blockchain are usually rewarded with Hive and HBD as their rewards. Recently however, that have changed as creators and users of the Hive ecosystem are instead rewarded with Hive and Hive Power (PH) as curation rewards.

When these rewards come in everyone actually uses it differently. Some save it for the interest which increases at 12.00% APR as defined by the witnesses. More so, most other people also convert it to HIVE in which case it is subject to 3 days unstake (withdraw) waiting period.

Now to the big question - how do you utilize your HBD? Do you save, spend or for some form of other strategy? For me however, I have tasted both divides. First is to spend or convert (conversion). This involves conversion of HBD to Hive. And I use Hive conversion for two purposes. Firstly, I convert HBD to Hive in order to get my desired amount of Hive which I generally use during the Power Up day to boost my HP.

Secondly, you know, sometimes one needs to recharge, refuel and keep firing on. And one way to conveniently do that is by converting a few HBD to Hive and subsequently to fiat which is used to solve some real time problems. Remember, no one does any business without profits. But now that the price of Hive is on the downward curve (which is not only peculiar to Hive as the market is generally bleeding), I tend to save, no longer spend.

Furthermore, regarding the second divide - which is saving for the interest. I must say that Hive offers a high interest rate of up to 20% APR. Often times, therefore, when I also get these HBD as curation rewards, when it was so rewarded back then, I move some of them to the savings wallet. There, I enjoyed cool APR interest rate. First, it was around 20.00% APR. Later, however, it was reduced to about 15.00% APR. Presently, it is pegged at 12.00% APR as defined by the witnesses.
