An Update On My Airtel Sim Upgrade Experience!

So last year, I did a sim upgrade for my Airtel sim card to 4G, hoping to have a faster internet experience, especially at my office location - Azikiwe Road. Unfortunately, the service has been disappointing. In fact, same old story, or would I say worse - frequent lags, dropped calls, and slow data speeds. Sometimes, the connection will go off, only to be restored after minutes. The other day, it lasted for over an hour, that I had to switch to MTN NG, which is also birds of a feather, lol.

The thing is, I'm not alone in this experience, as colleagues and others in the Azikiwe Road area have expressed similar frustrations. I recall the day I needed an urgent information from my friend whose office is some blocks away from mine, called his number a couple of times, it didn't connect. Tried WhatsApp message, whosai (same story). Damn, I was pissed!. I ended up walking down to his office in order to get the information.

Imagine the stress and time lost. Something that would have just taken few minutes of call, if the call had gone through at first.

I've reported this issue to Airtel's call center on multiple occasions, and after each call, comes a promise that it'll be fixed, but nada - the problem persists.

So this morning, after another frustrating experience, I made another call to the call center, a customer care rep., a female, answered. After explaining the situation, she asked me to hold while she transferred my call to a supervisor. I obliged because I had no choice. I just needed the issue sorted out.

Few minutes later, the supervisor came on the line and asked me to explain the issue, and after I detailed the network challenges plus venting, she apologized for the inconveniences and then explained that she need some information about my location - Address, City and State, so she could write a complaint report to the network team, to which I gladly gave.

After that, she promised that they would work on resolving the issue within 24 hours and that I would receive a follow-up call to confirm that the problem has been addressed.

Boy, I wasn't expecting that! Lol!

I must confess that I was impressed by the way she handled the call, and I must commend her level of professionalism. πŸ‘ And I was busy venting that I didn't pick her name. πŸ˜‚

Well, I just hope that this time around Airtel will take concrete steps to improve their network service, and deliver on their promises. As a customer, I expect better than this wacky network service, or don't I?

Thanks for reading.
