The Misrepresentation of Women on Social Media
As much as I enjoy social media and all its advantages, I hate the narrative it creates and pushes. I hate how anyone behind a camera can do or say whatever they deem fit without consequences.
I hate derogatory videos that portray women as being dumb!! Majority of videos circulating on social media over here are videos of women making a fool of themselves. Why project or promote this type of content every single time?! Why make people think that a lot of women are pretty faces with no brains?!
I hate street interviews, where people are being asked certain questions, and when they are unable to answer these questions the videos are turned into comedy skits. Upon watching these skits, people laugh to their heart's content and call the interviewee names.
These interviewers filter out the good interviews and push the bad ones for stupid traffic!!!
I hate the fact that women are mostly the ones targeted and there’s a certain narrative these people are trying to push out there.
It’s all fun and games in the comment section until you go out and you are literally pegged as a lady without brains just because you look good. They automatically think you can’t lift a finger or your brain doesn’t work because you are pretty. What century are we in again?
People need to cut women some slack, and stop making us the butt of every joke. It’s exhausting as a woman, very exhausting that we cannot be compared to our male counterparts at first glance!!! And constantly proving your worth to these people who already have a certain perception about women, is so sad!!!
If they are not making fun of our body shape, it’s how we spend money or our lifestyle.
Why do these people care so much about what women do? Yes, we are not “all” that in your book but why constantly poke your nose in our affairs?
Yes, women aren’t the only victims but I’m talking about this particular issue because I am a woman and one who is fed up already!
Social media is interesting and fun, but I hate the type of narrative it pushes, the abuse of freedom of speech, and how people applaud rubbish!
I just watched a video and half of the ladies interviewed gave answers contrary to what was asked. Everybody in the comment section kept abusing us, calling us empty vessels and how we are only concerned about looking good without developing our minds. To each his own but don’t generalize it!! Don’t assume all ladies are the same!! Don’t!
