Rising Star has enjoyed a recent surge of popularity, and with it—new users!
At the time of this post, just over 7,250 weekly active users 😲
The systems Rising Star uses for detecting rule violations has also been quietly improving. Those who frequent the Discord know that there has been quite an uptick in the number of people disputing bans.
Rising Star has a very short Terms & Conditions page (less than 400 words). In an effort to increase visibility of these rules, an 'Agree to the Rules' pop up has been implemented:
⭐ This is important context that frames the main list of rules. ⭐
Rising Star started as a hobby project. The devs made it so they didn’t go crazy during the first COVID lockdowns. It got popular, and attracted users who are used to thinking in terms of ROI, whitepapers, and fiat prices.
But Rising Star has never—and has no intention of—being anything but a fun idle/incremental game. Hence, the rules.
Playing Rising Star is mostly about running missions, then waiting. Pretty simple stuff. It’d be easy to program a bot or clicker to do this for you.
Because it’d be so easy, if this rule wasn’t in place, tons of people would do it and just farm STARBITS all day. This would ruin the economy for honest players.
It’s also pretty easy to create alts on Hive. Many people use alts for various reasons, for good or ill. If Rising Star did not restrict the use of alts, then it’d be easy for anyone to set up 3 or 4 or 5 (or 100) alt accounts and farm STARBITS all day. This would ruin the economy for honest players.
An easy way to get around the “no alts” rule is to claim that your brother or sister or parents or whatever are playing. There’s no easy way to verify that this is true, and people will absolutely lie about this (financial incentives make people do ugly things).
The simplest way to protect the STARBITS economy is to limit RSG accounts to one per household. It is unfortunate and not ideal, but this is the way it needs to be until a better system is figured out.
Anyone wanting to get around Rules 2 and 3 can do so through the clever use of a VPN or proxy. This is a tricksy one because VPNs are important for privacy... but if you allow a loophole as obvious as VPN, people will exploit it.
Trading NFTs on Hive’s marketplace is fair game.
But RSG restricts the gifting of NFTs, STARBITS or STARPRO. This prevents groups of people from pooling resources in order to gain an unfair advantage over people who are playing individually. For example, if left unrestricted, a gaming guild could pass around powerful cards like XPBoost10 or Legendary Instruments to help lower level players accelerate.
Rising Star cannot stop you from using the Hive Engine blockchain to transfer assets, but the cheating system can easily detect this (and detect sneaky efforts to disguise it). If the system detects this, cheating accounts will be flagged and possibly banned. Your Hive Engine assets cannot be frozen or seized in any way.
⚠️🎁 Giveaways are a big exception to this rule. Rising Star has a thriving and generous community, and encourages themed contests and giveaways. Anyone running a giveaway must apply to be whitelisted (post a link to your giveaway in the #support
channel on Discord) and ensure that their giveaway:
This is kind of a catchall rule. The ‘letter of the law’ is laid out in the written Terms & Conditions, but the ‘spirit of the law’ involves:
The RSG devs can, will and have banned users that are clearly trying to find ways around the stated rules, are exploiting loopholes, or are generally being disruptive towards the ‘spirit of the law.’ If what you’re doing feels sketchy or exploitative, then chances are you shouldn’t be doing it.
If you think you may have accidentally or unknowingly broken the rules, the best thing you can do is be honest and upfront about it. Come to the #support
channel on the RSG Discord and explain what you think may have happened. Provide your in game name (ign) too—this is your Hive username.
The devs will manually check things out and decide what to do from there.
Small offenses may be forgiven if you’ve been civil and honest and upfront about it.
Use the same channel to dispute a ban you feel may have been made in error. Be prepared to provide proof. Be polite and civil: it goes a long way. A reversal of your ban is not guaranteed. Your tenure within the game does not affect your chances (high level players are held to the same standard as new players).
Rising Star is a constant work in progress. This system of rules is not perfect, and will likely evolve along with the game itself. The community and devs welcome civil discussion on how things might be improved—come join us on Discord or drop your thoughts on this post!
And please remember that the team is a small group of passionate folks who love indie music and building things much more than creating a massive crypto profit system ~ 💜
Thank you for taking the trouble to explain them well, it's your post bro, it will be very helpful to continue disseminating the terms and conditions of the game so as not to violate the rules and not endanger our accounts
You're welcome!
Glad to see this explained well. I had run foul of one of the rules (unwittingly), and as said, I came clean about it - honesty is the best policy. Thanks !
I remember that! It was all pretty chill.
And it was appreciated - many thanks !
Great game by the way !!
I find the claim that RS isn't an investment to be somewhat deceptive. You can claim that it isn't intended to be an investment all you want, but the structure of the game itself sort of contradicts that. The more you invest > the more NFTs you acquire > the higher rate of STARBIT earnings you receive. The game has a clear ROI incentive, it even states it clearly that the goal of the game is to earn money while playing. There isn't a player in the game who spent money on it without the intent to increase their STARBITS accrual (earnings) (taxable income?).
I feel like if the game was truly intended to just be a game and not an earnings / investment vehicle, then a lot of these rules wouldn't need to exist. What would it matter how many accounts someone has or what it does to the market if the money is of no consequence? If it was a fake market? There would be no harm in it. But it is a real market, and the money IS of consequence.
Anyways, I just wish people would just call a spade a spade.
I'm a fan of RS and understand why all of these rules exist, this particular little nit-pick just annoys me is all.
I feel ya. Let me try and tease out some counterpoints though.
This mechanism is true of most games with a progression mechanic, whether fiat currency is involved or not. Idle and incremental games especially build this in (ever play Kittens Game? Dangerously addictive if you like idle/increms.
So I'd say we're still a "game" here.
A few points here.
All web3 enabled games will have some form of pathway to fiat, no argument or disillusion here. And if you're clever enough and willing to math things out, yes—you can find ROI.
But these rules and restrictions are intended precisely to blunt this instinct to wring ROI out of the game. They're a conscious disincentive!
Where's that? Not doubting you, I feel like I've seen something to this effect—but if we're getting into nuance the proper quote would be helpful. Maybe it needs to come down. I can't easily find it anywhere prominent though.
It's actually experimenting with being a bit of both: mostly a game, and also a way to plug into the wacky wild world of value exchange on web3. To have both, you need to find a balance between letting bots run roughshod over the whole ecosystem and cutting out the web3 stuff altogether. Is the RSG balance perfect? Hell no. It'll evolve. It will be forced to if it ends up ramping as recent user adoption suggests it might.
There are dozens of games that don't (seem to) care about this balance on Hive and elsewhere, and they're legit! This one's trying something different though—and the response and joy it brings to the community I think speaks volumes.
This is a fair point. And RSG has openly welcomed market makers and whatnot into the system.
So this comes back to me understanding that saying it's "just a game" is not... perfectly accurate. But it's also not "just an investment vehicle." It's something in between, with a heavy bias towards being a game (no roadmap, no whitepaper, features implemented based on what devs thinks is fun, no backup plan if dev quits, etc.)
For all the "no plan no safety net" things above... if we're seriously talking about investments, RSG is a terrible one. The risk is nuts. Don't assume any ROI will ever come out of it! It might! It'd be great if so... but yeah.
I think the community has embraced "it's a game not an investment" to simplify the notions above.
Hopefully I've made the case as to why she's not exactly just a spade 😉
Cheers, and thank you for sharing these thoughts!
Nice work on this! Very clear and also the reasons you are doing it! Hopefully now people can stick to the rules and you can spend time doing some dev work!
They told me if I killed myself now it would save the lives of countless others.
Saying the longer I wait to kill myself the more people will suffer.
They are reckless and should have shown the proper media what they had before taking me hostage for 5 years. I know there are many in prison that dont deserve to be there because of this. Your stay in prison will not be fun @battleaxe and friends. People are going to want you dead when they find out what you did. I hope you die a slow painful death. You sick mother fuckers.

Its a terrorist act on American soil while some say its not real or Im a mental case. Many know its real. This is an ignored detrimental to humanity domestic and foreign threat. Ask informed soldiers in the American military what their oath is and tell them about the day you asked me why. Nobody has I guess. Maybe someone told ill informed soldiers they cant protect America from military leaders in control with ill intent. How do we protect locked up soldiers from telling the truth?

Check out the last post from @hivebuzz:
The one thing that I worry about this is that when I go over to a friends house, who plays RSG, that if I am on his network and I log into the game and play for a day, both of our accounts will be banned. We get together with a couple of other people and we play Table-Top games all day, so RSG completion pops up for me while I am there.
So my question is, if I am playing the game over there, at max 2 days a week, but still less than 7 days a month, will the accounts get banned? Since all the other times my account plays from my IP and Physical location.
Thank you if you have time to respond to this question.
That does sound risky. The safest thing to do would be to start a long mission before you enjoy table top stuff (are you part of the Tabletop community here on Hive, btw?) and not log in to the wifi.
Or maybe, if you're able, run RSG over cellular if you really need to simultaneously play?
I'm not officially associated with RSG support though, so I'd mostly recommend asking there. Chances are you'll be told to do this first thing (aka don't do missions on the same network).
Okay, I was thinking of running it over cellular as well, especially since we will play for about 10 hours or so, it is a fun day for Dads to get away! :)
I haven't had time to look into the TT community on Hive yet, but I am getting there!
Have a slice of !PIZZA for the good answer as well! :)

Honestly, that is not an acceptable response. They need to figure out a better solution here. They are doing this in my opinion as a coping mechanism to handle botters and multi-accounters which do need to be handled but catch-all rules like this are generally poor design. Same situation as with a VPN; just asking to lose an entire sub-section of the player base that is concerned with their privacy.

I do exactly the same. I have 4 friends who also play the game. And we meet up quite often. And it is kind of strange that you prohibit people from playing the game when they are together, or otherwise they might get banend...
I do understand why these rules need to exist. But to be honest, I never read these strict rules in any other small crypto game. So I am kind of confused sometimes, why this is the only game having so many strict rules.
This game earns EXTREMELY well, more than any other game I know. So yes, it needs strict rules. But I fell it gets more strict from month to month and I feel as if I am not sure if I do something wrong and I feel guilty all the time, only cause my friends play it too and my girlfriend does too (she does not live in my household though). And having players feel guilty is not a nice feeling to associate with a game you normally love.
So to be honest, I hope that there won´t be added even more rules over time. It doesn´t feel too good anymore. And also why not 2 people in the same household are allowed to play the game... Why? If they all have fun doing it? What would I do if I move in a house together with my girlfriend? One of us needs to stop playing?

I think one of the best games. Major cause of it because you gave us free to play without any investment. I am so grateful for that. Thank You very much
Great post.
😎
From hobby to becoming a popular game on Hive, it is indeed a gem itself.
This is a free to play and play 2 earn gaming system or say rewarding system, it is our responsibility to follow the rules and this is how we support the fair game for every player.
Very nice post!

Hi, I've tried to get an answer to this in support, so I will try ask it here too. So I have been running a Starbits giveaway under this my gaming account for over a year now. But I play using my main account @captaincryptic.
Recently, @risingstar started requiring people who were running giveaways to enter and update their giveaways in the game if they wanted to be upvoted by the curation trail. As such, I have been logging in under @playbyhive to enter the giveaway information. I don't play the game, just enter the giveaway info.
In addition, I transfer some of my earned STARBITS from my @captaincryptic account to my @playbyhive account for the giveaways.
Is there someway to get an official "Ok" for this situation, or will I have to give up my long standing giveaway and start over on my main account?
If @playbyhive doesn't do missions on RSG, then you should be fine.
If @playbyhive is whitelisted for giveaways, then you should also be fine.
But asking in the support channel is the best course of action! Sometimes they'll put a note on your account(s) to help give context in case any future issues arise.
Thanks! I just got the "ALL CLEAR" signal from @jux too, so it is GAME ON! !LOLZ

Let's say if you sell starbits/starpro and giveaway Hive to others people. Is this a ban?
If you convert it to DEC and giveaway DEC. Is this also a ban.
If you buy a card with DEC and giveaway this card. Is this also a ban.
This is too much. I think. RSG is trying to restricted all from of giveaway.
What about P2P? How can you know it is gifted or not.
If I send my swap.hive to @hiveupme can it also consider at a gift.
Only if those other people use that Hive to boost their RSG game
Only if those other people use that DEC to boost their RSG game
Yes, unless the card is involved in a whitelisted giveaway
The exceptions for giveaways are pretty clearly stated in the TOC and this post, I thought.
You can't, so be careful with P2P and keep a history of your conversations if you think that P2P trades involving RSG assets might run afoul of the rules.
I don't think that account plays RSG—it looks like a curation system, so you should be fine. If that account used the SWAP.HIVE to buy RSG assets it'd be a problem.
@jfuji
Hello.
I have a question.
With this account I make a lottery, which wins! REWARD, with pgm, I win starbits, can I send them to my main account with which I play risingstar (I specify, I do not play with this account- this)
That should be fine as you are not mutliaccounting or trying to give other players an advantage. Just be careful not to accidentally use your non-RSG account to run a mission.
@jfuji
Thank you for your reply
Huii seems a very strikt system of rules and there is one thing to fear for me ?
Yes my location is always the same , but at some times it seems to me getting a different IP by my provider . Can I be sure You always find out it is the same me ??
Occasional changes to IP shouldn’t be a problem, unless other people are also playing with those IP addresses.
Found your article through listnerds and I just joined Rising start yesterday... so you can imagine how useful this will be. Thanks.
Cheers! Good luck in Rising Star 😀🎶🎹🎸
I am glad the team at Rising Star are taking measures to prevent cheaters from abusing such a fun, community driven game. Thank you for continuing support and informing the community of what is happening.
Me too! Thanks for the kind words :)
Nice resource, thanks for posting it.
You're welcome!
This is a good explanation of the rules for Rising Star. I am a very new player and want to make sure that I don't do anything to get myself banned.
