We have arrived in Canada! I flew into Prince Rupert and had to take a bus, which then goes onto a barge. The barge drives to the mainland, and then the buses drive into town. It’s a very inefficient system in my opinion, but it is what it is.
Prince Rupert is a beautiful little town. The people are friendly, and we didn’t feel a massive difference between Alaska and Canada, except that the supermarkets here have way more options, which is very nice. We missed the salami we liked and proper milk, so it’s good to find those again!
We spent around four days in Prince Rupert. After dropping another person off at the airport, we made our way back to the boat to prepare for tomorrow’s passage.
First Impressions of Canada: They definitely have a weird accent! Maybe I just got used to the Alaskan accent, but that’s just my opinion. Maybe @daveks can correct me on that one. 😆
The Boat coming along the Fuel Dock
We’re now heading south quickly, as there are only small weather windows where you can actually make progress. We’re picking our spots carefully. Usually, we have multiple places we can aim for in a day, so if we need to hide from the weather, we can just tuck into a different bay. That’s basic planning, but it’s essential to avoid tricky situations—like 50 knots of wind against us or having to go into an uncharted bay. Those are definitely things to avoid.
Anyway, tomorrow’s post will be drone shots from Prince "Rainy Rupert," so stay tuned for that.
Until next time,
Paul
Glad to have you back on the boat - after 1.5 months.
