Finding Exercise In Everyday Life.

If going to the gym is the only way to stay fit, many people, including myself, would have gone completely out of shape. The gym isn't a bad idea, it has helped people since there is various equipment to train with, fitness accountability and inspiration from other gym members, but I have preferred doing things my way when it comes to staying fit. No weightlifting, dumbbells or barbells and yet, I am doing very well in staying not just in shape but healthy as well.

Everyone has a distinct approach to staying fit and doing whatever works for them. My fitness routine has changed in the past four months but the desire to stay fit hasn't changed a bit.

Before now, I ran or walked for about 100 minutes in the morning. Being consistent with the routine back then helped me both physically and mentally, but a few things changed after my wife went to bed. I couldn't keep up with the run every morning for different reasons.

Sometimes I wake up late from staying up at night to sing and dance for my baby so that mom can catch some sleep too. There are mornings when we have more than the usual chores, and I choose helping at home over my runs. Initially, I felt worried about losing shape, but it didn't happen, and it was then that I realised that those chores at home were having a good impact on me.

I tried my run in the evening but it didn't feel like morning. I wasn't feeling the vibe due to the busyness on the road once it was past 7am. Instead, I just take short strolls within the environment when the sun is down. On mornings when I don't have much doing at home, I still hit the road as early as 5:30 am.

Aside from running and walking, there are so many activities I do daily that count as exercise. One of them is attending to my birds, I process their food myself and it's done every morning. I wash their plastics, clean the cage and sometimes, these activities last almost thirty minutes.

There are weeks when new activities come in, like clearing the grass around my house since it's just bare ground, no interlocks or concrete. The grass grows very fast, especially now that it rains almost every day, so when the rain ceases for a few days, I try to clear as much as I can.

I started this on Monday and the whole compound is clear now.

Exercising for me isn't just about building muscles or biceps, it's more about staying healthy by keeping our body and mind active. My change in routine hasn't changed anything like I mentioned earlier and I look forward to the old routine when my baby is a lot older.

Regardless of what we are doing to stay in shape, the most important thing about staying fit is consistency. Whether it's a big exercise or just a little one like mine, being consistent matters a lot and that's how to get any desired result.

It just shows your dedication to staying healthy by doing exercise in every free time you have. That's actually cool and really amazing. Staying fit and working out is a must as we get older. I wish I can apply this to myself though. I'm just too lazy, aigooo

I think dedication matters because it would help you to be consistent. I don't think that you are lazy, the regular tasks you do at home or work count too.

A big surprise from one of my courses on nutrition was finding that these "little" household chores actually burn more calories than a lot of the more obvious sporty activities. I reckon your thinking on this subject (as well as so many others) is sound, my friend. Fitness is about maintaining overall health, it doesn't have to mean X minutes of running or gym each week. :)

Overall wellness is what matters really and those simple tasks we do at home have good impacts on us. It is like yoga, no lifting and others yet it works, helping people to stay mentally and physically healthy.

You're right, exercise doesn't have to be limited to the gym. Finding ways to stay active in daily life can be just as effective and sustainable. Thanks for sharing your experience!
