Letting Go of the Weight, Choosing Peace

Sometimes letting go can seem so difficult, especially when it has been a part of you for a long time. Certain habits are difficult to let go, these habits could be limiting most times but it takes persistence and determination to let go. I have met people who are willing to let go of certain lifestyles, habits, and even memories but they find it difficult to do so, not because they are less bothered about it but because it takes several steps to achieve this.

As a person, I have come to understand that I have a certain lifestyle that involves procrastination, I would always push the timeline to when I am supposed to do something. I would say to myself that no matter how much I procrastinate I will still get it done. Well, this is one habit, I am letting go of. Procrastination is a stealer of time, the more you procrastinate the more it becomes part of you, especially since you are of the opinion you will still get it done.

In 2025, I had said to myself that I would stop procrastinating and start doing things when I am supposed to. At first, just saying that I would stop procrastinating wasn’t even helping at all, I kept on procrastinating.

It dawned on me that I needed to stop this habit when I almost missed out on an application. I stumbled upon the application and saw that it was good and the opportunity seems great. Well, I was going to apply but I kept telling myself “Oh there’s still time to apply, you could still send in your application whenever you like”. This was me procrastinating, turns out I mixed up the deadline, and guess who almost missed this opportunity because I was procrastinating? Well, I almost did.
Thank goodness, I had a re-check and sent in my application before the deadline which was the next day.

This made me realize that I needed to let go of procrastination, it hasn’t been easy but I try to do things immediately instead of pushing it on, because obviously nothing is stopping me from getting it done immediately. I try to also set up a flexible schedule for myself so I don’t get to procrastinate as well, it’s been going smoothly, and I'm hoping to keep working on it in 2026.

I have chosen to carry a lot of lifestyles from 2025 into 2026, my 2025 was a great year. I was able to get on with life and everything by setting boundaries. This is one lifestyle I will be bringing into 2026, setting boundaries and putting labels on my relationship with people. I was able to realize that most people are not your friends, everyone can’t be your friend obviously so the moment you learn to understand where you stand with people then life becomes easier and better for you.

This singular lifestyle helped me navigate life as a young girl trying to build a name for herself both career-wise and academically. So in 2026, I will be letting go of procrastination because it feels extremely heavy and bring along with me a habit of setting boundaries and putting labels to my relationships with people.

Procrastinating can be a real bad habit: you need willpower to break out of it. Best of luck with your New Year's resolutions. Best regards.
