I remember some time ago when I was at my beginner's level in the university, those days were one of the toughest days in my teenage years. We struggle so much to survive, coming from an average home was one thing and the other was facing the reality as a male child. I was not neglected but not given the attention I should get. I wasn’t baffled by that because I knew how I left home. So I can't have my hopes and anticipation high.
I never felt it that much, not until I lost my device after a lecture one day. It was a day I could never forget. I had the thought that it wouldn’t affect me that much, not until it was time for exams, and lack of information got me a carryover. That was the very moment I knew how important my phone could be.
It became a back-to-back hustle for me to get another one. And then the one I also struggled to get was a used phone, it gave me a lot of issues that I almost regretted I took the decision to buy it. I later sold it at a price not worth it. But I felt it's even better if I don't have a phone than having one, which is giving me a lot of problems.
Days went by, so I had another reason to feel the importance of getting a good phone. A bad phone is just almost the same as a life threat. I promised I wouldn't fall for such a mistake anymore. I need a device that will serve me a purpose and not just a device for fancy purposes.
I borrowed a phone from my brother and back then I was used to watching Facebook reels and YouTube videos, not until when Facebook started paying revenues to those who create content. I came to my senses that I am just a tool for others' success neglecting my own purposes. I decided to stop wasting my data on those reels and not even with a borrowed phone again.
With time I found a means of earning that will compensate for my data subscriptions and also give me some savings. I was so happy that I could even live a better life though not much but still making progress.
Gradually, living in a minimalistic way, I was able to save up some funds that I could use to get a better phone that would serve me a better purpose. Since then I realized that even my phone has been an important possession in my life because apart from getting updates it has been my source of income.
It made me cherish it even more. I bought a new phone that was really worth the heavy-duty job I had embarked on, and I realized that to have a nice time using the device I needed a good backup, which made me buy a power bank. And I also got a case to prevent it from heavy damage.
Over the years now, I have been using that same phone and it has worked more than expected. It has been over four years now and still counting. I realized that even as a minimalist we still need to buy something good and worth it so as to prevent us from spending unnecessarily.
Right now, my phone has been one of the most important possessions I have, and it has been giving signs of repairs, but instead of that, I have been trying to save up again for another better device that will serve me a purpose over time.

I can definitely relate! Losing our phones has become one of people's biggest fears and for good reason - those who still insist we're not attached and totally dependent on these little contraptions are only kidding themselves. Good on you for seeing how you were sabotaging yourself and turning towards a more self-sufficient and fulfilling approach :)
You said it all. Maybe in presence they might act like they don’t feel the impact.
Thank so much. I really appreciate
I can relate to your journey with phones because I know the struggle, and it's amazing how a good device can change your life. I have had this android phone for over 4 years now and trust me it works perfectly well.
That’s it. The right things gives the best service.
I totally agree with you
Thank God, you are really making money off your phone @abdul-qudus
You are not attached to it for nothing. So, you're doing well.
Wow, your story really touched me. Losing your phone, struggling with a used one, then saving up for a better one shows how strong you are. It’s nice that the phone became more than just for fun, it helped you grow and make money too. I’m also happy your phone still works after four years.
Wow! 4 years??? Impressive. Your experience just made me remember this morning on my way to work. My phone had fallen off my bag and I didn't even notice. Thankfully the Pele inside the tricycle alerted me. My joy knew no bounds because I knew the struggles before I got this phone and I never want to experience such a hard time again.
