Rock N' Roll From the Late 1960's for this Three Tune Tuesday.

The rain has finally cleared out from the former hurricane Rachel that left lots of wind and rain where I live. Fortunately the worst of it hit south of here near Tijuana and San Diego, at least fortunate for me anyway. Tijuana most certainly was not ready for that kind of weather, and there are still people missing in Baja California down in Mexico. Never a good sign. Hopefully most will have a happy resolution.

It is Tuesday and it's time for another Three Tune Tuesday. Although the header always tends to give that away... Recently I have been trying to pick up an entire collection of Silver Strike tokens from the now defunct Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. These were silver tokens that could be won by playing certain slot machines. Although even those machines are vanishing and a rare find in any casino now. But I came across a token I really liked, but they're asking too much and the picture of the back stinks. Check it out:

These tokens contain 0.6 Troy ounces of pure silver surrounded by a brass ring. Now that they aren't available as the casino has long since shut down, they are becoming harder to find at a good price. Right now this one is priced at $59.99, too much in my opinion especially with the suboptimal picture of the back where the Pink Taco insignia is displayed. This token is on my watchlist now, it may take some time to find a nice one at the right price!

Apparently the Pink Taco was a very good Mexican restaurant in the old Hard Rock, but it shut down with the hotel. Nothing lasts forever in Las Vegas and the city is always changing! Always something new and exciting in Sin City...

Cream

This legendary band was short lived, forming in London, England in 1966. The were a rock supergroup with alumni of Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, and Ginger Baker. Although they broke up in 1968 they are one of the most influential bands in 60's rock n' roll. They were inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame back in 1993. This is a song called "White Room", one of their best!

Jimi Hendrix

The legendary rock n' roller was active in the music world since 1962, but his move to London, England in 1966 led to the formation of the Jimi Hendrix Experience. By the next year their debut album was released and he became a very big name in rock n' roll. He revolutionized the use of the electric guitar using amplifiers with high volume and gain. By 1969 he was the world's highest paid rock n' roller, only to die one year later of a drug overdose at age 27.

This song was written by Bob Dylan, but Hendrix did it with such style. The video is a bit grainy, but it is old and hasn't been enhanced. But it sounds great, this is "All Along the Watchtower":

Steppenwolf

Formed in Los Angeles, California in 1967, this band had huge success in the late 1960's and early 1970's. They sold over 25 million albums around the world, and for that time period that was huge! They eventually broke up in 1972 and have had a few reunions but never eclipsed the success they had in their early years. This is one of their best songs, "Born To Be Wild":
