Beanie Babies and Some Fun Music from the 1990's!

Who can forget Beanie Babies? These stuffed plush toys were insanely popular in the late 1990's and became the first true internet sensation. Introduced in 1993 by Ty Inc., they were produced in limited numbers and even discontinued after certain quantities were produced to ensure scarcity. People were not only buying them as collectibles, but some as financial investments as their resale values on the rarer ones was very high.

Beanie Babies were completely discontinued at the end of 1999 to cap of their run throughout the 90's. However, popular demand saw them return later in year 2000. I guess you should always give into consumer pressure, but I'm sure the money was the real reason why... There are still people who are fervent collectors of these stuffed toys, but the insanity started in none other than the nineties!

Since it's Friday again it's time for another edition of Nineties Friday. For those unfamiliar with it, this is an event that comes around each Friday where you can create a post to share just about anything from the 1990's. Kingpin

There aren't many movies that manage to coin a brand new word and have it remain in use 30 years later. Kingpin was one of these unicorns, coining the term: "munsoned". It means to dramatically fall from success to failure, usually due to one big mistake. I heard it used in a new Netflix series a couple weeks ago, prompting me to share this hilarious comedy of the 1990's!

Starring Bill Murray, Woody Harrelson, Randy Quaid, and Vanessa Angel, it appeared on the big screen in 1996. Although not a huge commercial success, it's a fun show. I still enjoy watching it from time to time. Is it the best movie ever made? No, but it is funny! And Bill Murray's performance is unforgettable, and just look at his hair:

Nirvana

It's been awhile since I shared anything from this Seattle band, formed in 1987. Although relatively short lived, the band changed the sound of mainstream music forever. Their second album Nevermind was released in 1991 and introduced the world the grunge. This song came off that very album and is called "In Bloom":

Guns N' Roses

This legendary band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1985. Their breakout album Appetite For Destruction in 1987 made them world famous super stars. Their third and fourth albums, Use You Illusion I and II were released in September of 1991 and were instant best sellers. The biggest hit off the pair was "You Could Be Mine" that was included in the movie Terminator 2, but other hits like "November Rain" were huge as well. They did have some dark tracks on them as well, one of which was an older song that they first recorded on Illusion I, but was written in the early days of the band. This is "Back Off Bitch":

Hole

Ok, two weeks in a row for Hole, since I didn't share "Violet" last week and it was pointed out to me! This Hollywood, California band formed 1989 and were extremely talented. Although officially disbanded in 2012, Courtney Love continues to produce solo work. Their second album Live Through This was released in 1994 and really had some great music. The lead song was brilliant and is of course: "Violet":

No Doubt

This band from Orange County formed in 1986 in Anaheim. Yes, the home of Disneyland. Gwen Stefani and the boys started as a ska band that had breakout success in 1995 with their album Tragic Kingdom. One of my favorites off the album was "Happy Now?".
