Rollermania and Tartan Triumphs on ttt216

Hello music lovers and Hello hivers!

It's Tuesday again people and you know what that means – time to share some tunes for the brilliant #threetunetuesday initiative started by @ablaze!

This week there can only be one band.

Festivals and the comeback of flares amongst younger females got me thinking of some friends older sisters and their love of one band that came more or less from our capital Edinburgh!

ttt216.png

That band is The Bay City Rollers

It is Tuesday and that of course means that it's #ttt or #threetunetuesday and so it's time to share some tunes with you!

@ablaze started #ttt 216 weeks ago! Go check out what it is all about on his last post Gym shuffle V for Three Tune Tuesday - Week 216 - win 6 HBI

Do go support @ablaze as without him we would not have this mental fun musical activity that you can win HSBI from! I am happy to be one of the SIX sponsors and it is kinda fun checking out music from all over this global village of ours!

Long live #ttt 😁🎼 and #threetunetuesday

Where to start!

Festival season is in full swing here in Scotland, and as I’ve been out and about, something has genuinely caught my eye ... yet another comeback from a previous era ... the glorious comeback of flares amongst the younger females! It’s a fantastic sight full of retro cool and it instantly transported me back to my days as a kid in Edinburgh. Some of my friends elder sisters were crazy about a certain home grown band and their bedroom walls would be adorned with posters of them.

So, for this week’s #ThreetuneTuesday, I simply had to choose none other than The Bay City Rollers.

They were a bit before my time, but I knew of them thanks to teenage girls loving them!

The Bay City Rollers were more than just a band.. they were a 1970s phenomenon, sparking "Rollermania" across the globe.

I know Mrs T big sister loved them and for a long time they were her favourite band!

Hailing from close to our very own capital, Edinburgh, they became teenage idols with their catchy pop songs and (now I do remember this) their signature tartan-trimmed trousers and scarves.

Their career was a whirlwind of screaming fans, television appearances, and hit after hit and I do remember their manager Tam Paton from Prestonpans as I think he was as famous as they were at one point!

So today we have three tunes from The Bay City Rollers

image.png

Turns out we are going back to the years 1974/5 for all these songs!

Tune 1 ~ Bay City Rollers - Bye Bye Baby

Fluff me I just cracked myself up watching this video ... those outfits...

From the Album: Once Upon a Star and Released: 1975

This to me is their most iconic song and some of you may remember it from being in films such as 'Love Actually' where the song is played by Daniel (Liam Neeson) at his wife's funeral, and by the DJ (Junior Simpson) at Juliet (Keira Knightley) and Peter's (Chiwetel Ejiofor) wedding reception.

I think I might have finally found a song that @asiaymalay likes!

I wonder if @joanstewart or @lizelle were into them!

Tune 2 ~ Bay City Rollers - Shang A Lang

I thought I would share a live video from the year that it was released ... yep 1974! From the Album: Rollin'...

Pure unadulterated Rollermania

image.png

And for our final tune we are going to move forward a year again to 1975 and a song that was number 1 in the US...

Tune 3 ~ Bay City Rollers - Saturday Night

This is from Album: Bay City Rollers (US Album) or if you are on this side of the pond.. Wouldn't You Like It? (UK Album)

Released: 1975

So there you have it – three tunes from The Bay City Rollers.

Which was your favourite The Bay City Rollers tune or is it one of the many others that could have been chosen? Or have you never heard of them?!?

I love those pants!!! I can see why they were such a hit with the young girls of the time: they are hot guys!!! I think every teenage girl who hasn't been a fan of a band or singer, came with a flaw from the factory. hahaha. I was a fan of a group called Menudo and I remember saving all my allowance to buy magazines, t-shirts, records and even cried and screamed when I heard them sing. My hormones were in turmoil, my dad used to say. A hug from a teenage fan.😎

Very nice! I grew up new and even lived in the town where they got their name. They threw a dart at a map and it landed on Bay City, MI. They had a special spot for the rollers in the old museum there when I was a kid.

Oh that is cool fact. never knew that!
It might have put Bay City on on the map for some more people.

Probably that and the fact that Madonna grew up there... She called it a smelly city (she wasn't wrong...).

Hahaha, wow i nearly forgot about BCR... shame on me, since that was the band who made me a Brit-Rock fan, more than everything that came out of the states at the time.

Thanks MadBro for reminding me, good good memories just flooding my mind now. Hehehe !

Hehe glad I stirred your memories! That is cool you preferred them to American bands of that era hehehe

You can tell it was the 1970's! They aren't a band I know all that well but have heard a couple songs. I think by the time I got into music they had vanished from the mainstream. I didn't know they were from Scotland though, the things you learn! Fun TTT!
