For those who are not familiar with P-pop, it's short for Philippine Pop or Pinoy Pop. It's a genre of popular music from my country, the Philippines. It's amazing how the genre is gradually growing worldwide, and I'm truly proud of it.
Recently, there have been a bunch of new P-pop groups, but my favorite will always be the P-pop Kings, SB19. They're the group that paved the way for the genre to be known worldwide.
Yesterday, they released their latest EP, and in just 24 hours, they're already ranked 2nd in the Worldwide iTunes album chart. For sure, there will be more to come. If you're interested, I inserted here a peek of their EP from Spotify. It has 7 songs in total, and each song is unique! ^^
So far, they have released three music videos from this EP, and I'm going to share them here on this post... Let's sit back and enjoy! ^^
This is the main song in their EP, and it's called DAM. The group's leader, Pablo, wrote and co-produced this song. This music video got 4M views on its first day, and it's easy to imagine why.
This is one of the best Music Videos I've seen so far in my life... It's literally a fantasy movie or in an RPG world. As for the title, "DAM" is a wordplay for "PakiramDAM" which means feelings. The song is relatable because it shows people's inner struggles. In a world full of societal standards, it's always a struggle to stay true to ourselves. It also gives off the message that in order to achieve our goals in life, it's inevitable to make sacrifices.
Some of my favorite parts of this song are the lyrics:
Lyrics | English Translation: |
---|---|
Para sa'n pa 'yung mga paa, kung 'di naman kaya tumayong mag-isa | What are the legs for, if you can't stand on your own? |
Pa'no hahawakan ang pangarap, kung maduduwag ka lang sa pahamak | How can you hold on to your dreams, if you're just a coward in danger? |
Ang lahat ay may dahilan. 'Wa kanan, sige lang sa paghakbang. Paano pa higitan ang sagad na? Kung ito na ang wakas, sa'n ba nagsimula? | Everything has a reason. Left, right, just keep going! How can you surpass the limit? If this is the end, where did it begin? |
I love how thought-provoking their lyrics are. It makes you reflect on your life and the things you've done and are yet to do. It's encouraging in so many ways. This is one of the reasons why I like this group and their music. :)
Then yesterday, they released two new music videos. They're both so Filipino-coded! One is so touching and sad, while the other is a complete opposite. hahah Let's check out TIME first.
Sometimes, we tend to be busy with a lot of things that we hardly get the chance to spend time with our loved ones... that at times, it becomes too late.
A lot of Filipinos work abroad for their family. It's a sacrifice some people make to make their lives better. I was supposed to be one of them, but things happened and I changed my plans. My parents, especially my mom, are against it as well. She tends to worry a lot and prefers us to stick together.
Now that I'm not getting any younger, I'll try to spend my time with my family and the people dear to me. Life is unpredictable, so it's great not to leave any regrets.
Even though I'm busy with work almost every day, the fact that I work from home makes it easier for me to balance my time.
This song says it all... the boys sound really emotional when recording it, especially KEN. (around 4:00-4:18) --- he's doing his best for his grandparents, especially his grandma, who supported and raised him, but she passed away a few years ago, so this song is extra meaningful for him.
OK~ I don't want to get too emotional, so let's move on to the last MV called "DUNGKA!".
This MV is so hilarious and very Filipino. XD
It reflects Filipinos' everyday lives, both the negative and positive aspects. It's still fun in the Philippines, regardless.
I was amazed because the MV itself is star-studded. Some Filipino celebrities and influencers guest-starred in the video. The dance is sooo fun that I'd like to learn it. hahah It's actually a diss track, but in a hilariously creative way.
For some reason, I just love it when SB19 releases a diss track... It's so relatable, and many people would actually feel the same way about it.
I'm glad I watched TIME before DUNGKA! because my tears were then replaced with laughter.
I hope you all enjoy SB19's music as much as I do. Please tell me what you think after listening to their EP or watching their MVs. I'm excited to know. :)
I'll end this post here. See you around! (^^,)/

SB19’s latest EP is EVERYTHING. From the emotional depth of DAM to the heartwarming TIME, they really know how to make you feel! And then DUNGKA! comes out and just flips everything with a huge laugh. 😂 It’s like they know exactly what we need—something deep and something fun! Did you have a favorite MV or song from this release?
It is!!! It's a full-package EP! 😂✨ It's difficult to choose a favorite because all of them are good... My style of music leans more towards Quit and 8TonBall though. However, if you include DAM, then it's the obvious answer... 💙✨😁
Oooh SB19! I think I have heard some song of theirs not sure tho, I listen mostly to Smugglaz, Siobal D and ofc the amazing and lovely Morissette Amon! And a couple more but always happy to add more to the list :)
I'm not familiar with the first two, but I know Morissette... 💙✨ What SB19 songs have you heard? Maybe "Gento"? 😁✨
They are smaller hiphop artists in PH :) also I am not sure really but I know their name at least and think I heard a song once!
