Hello, friends of HIVE! It's Tuesday and like every Tuesday, we will delight you with music.
This time, since December has arrived and December is one of the most musical months of the year, I want to share with you three songs that are the most played on Venezuelan radio when December arrives. There are always new Christmas songs: merengues, gaitas (this is a musical genre of which I will make a separate post because it deserves it), songs in English or Spanish, but the infallible ones are these three, which we have listened to since we were children.
This year David Bisbal, Dálmata, María Becerra, have made versions of those Christmas classics that our grandparents and parents heard. That's why today I wanted to share three old songs that are always, always, heard when December arrives and when we hear them, inevitably, we are overwhelmed by the dual feelings of this time of the year. Turn it up and you can cry...
Unlike the next two, this is one of the most danceable. The best orchestras in the country have played it and it is emblematic of this era. This song talks about what the old year left us. >Although its lyrics have a touch of humor, it is interesting because the attitude is to be thankful for the good things that the old year has left us. “Yo no olvido al año viejo porque me ha dejado cosas muy buenas”, says the lyrics and we feel that the year is already gone and a new one is about to begin.
The second song is a piece by Argentine singer Luis Aguilé. The lyrics of this song are beautiful and it is an invitation to all those people who are lonely, sad, full of bitterness, to share these dates: “You who are far away from your friends, your land and your home”, says the song and immediately we remember the number of people who do not feel like celebrating Christmas. “For that reason and many more, come to my house this Christmas”, we hear and we are imbued with the spirit of fraternity, love and forgiveness.
The third and last song is a Venezuelan Christmas hymn. This song is the one that is played on almost every radio station in Venezuela just before the beginning of the year, five minutes before 12 o'clock at night. Without any fear, I can assure you that when a Venezuelan listens to the sound of the bells at the beginning of this song, he may be very bitter, hard, insensitive, but listen to the entrance of this song and his heart wrinkles like a raisin and he gets a lump in his throat. This song is part of our Christmas DNA: next to hallacas, ham bread and chicken salad, you can't miss “Faltan 5 para las 12”, sung by Néstor Zavarce.
Well, the last month of the year has arrived and it's time to celebrate, eat, drink, reflect, make plans, make lists, but most especially: it's time to listen to music and dance. So get ready because this month music has no schedule or reason: every minute will be good to fill our hearts with the best melodies in the world.
