En los 80 había una excelente "movida" de rock en Venezuela, no solo porque las disqueras estaban reclutando nuevas bandas, también porque en todas las ciudades del país se estaban haciendo conciertos para despertar el interés de los jóvenes por este género musical, que para ser sincera, era muy mal visto por cierta parte de la sociedad en esa época. Yo recuerdo que en uno de esos conciertos que se dieron en mi ciudad, mis padres no me dejaron asistir, argumentando que "esos eran unos desgreñados y fumadores de marihuana" (jajajaja) y yo era una niña de bien (jajaja). En ese evento se presentó Témpano y aunque lloré y lloré para que me dejaran ir, solo obtuve un rotundo No como respuesta.

Idols of a generation: Three songs by Témpano
Hello, dear friends of HIVE, music lovers by vocation. Today is Tuesday and like every Tuesday, it's our turn to share good music.
For weeks I have been trying to rescue the best and most famous Venezuelan musicians of the 80's, a decade in which a series of singers and groups emerged that projected our music internationally.
But this week I don't want to pass up the Grammy won by the boys of Rawayana, a Venezuelan group that has been heard around the world thanks to their catchy and controversial song: “Veneka”. That's why, after listening to the speech they gave when they received the Grammy, in which they alluded to old Venezuelan singers and groups (in a kind of tribute), such as Zapato 3, Guaco, Desorden público, I would like to remember a Venezuelan group from the 80's that in its time, just as Rawayana is today the delight of young Venezuelans, was the craze of a generation: Témpano.
Témpano is a Venezuelan alternative rock band that started in the late 70's, but had its great musical boom in the 80's. They shared the stage with national rockers. They shared the stage with national and international rockers and were invited to the most prestigious progressive music festivals.
Today I want to share three songs that were a hit in the Venezuelan radio stations of that time.
Werewolf in Paris
This one was a big hit. Although this piece is by the successful Spanish group La Unión, Témpano did an excellent version with exceptional arrangements. I remember the first time I saw the video of this song on a program called Sonoclip. I had to stay up late (the program was broadcast after midnight) and the next day I had classes. In the days that followed everyone was talking about the video and the song: so it was worth the late night. Turn it up and ignore the video quality.
Crying
In the 80's there was an excellent rock “movida” in Venezuela, not only because the record companies were recruiting new bands, but also because concerts were being held in all the cities of the country to awaken the interest of young people in this musical genre, which to be honest, was very bad seen by a certain part of society at that time. I remember that in one of those concerts that took place in my city, my parents did not let me attend, arguing that “they were shabby and smoked marijuana” (hahaha) and I was a good girl (hahaha). Témpano performed at that event and although I cried and cried to be allowed to go, I only got a resounding No as an answer.
The last song is a cover of Piano man by Billy Joel, and although this song had its successful version in Spanish by Ana Belen, the famous Spanish singer, the reinterpretation that Témpano does is masterful and made them achieve success in the world. Who hasn't closed their eyes when listening to the beautiful and sad notes of the harmony in this song? Enjoy!!!!
Returning to the group Rawayana, to which we will dedicate a complete post later on, and to their speech at the Grammy Awards, we have to emphasize that those words taken were not only a tribute to our country, but also to all those musical groups that preceded them and that undeniably paved the way for Venezuelan music to be heard and valued internationally today.
