What happens in the backseat...
Lately on Tuesdays, I have been covering some bands that are new to me and hopefully new to a lot of you as well. Between people posting here on HIVE, the Spotify algorithms, Sirius/XM satellite radio, and my email alerts about concerts in my area, I am always finding new music to listen to. This week will be no different as I write my #threetunetuesday post for the initiative started by @ablaze.
It's a really great theme where you can post three songs from your favorite artist or artists on Tuesday each week. They can be new, they can be old, you can have a theme for the week or you can just throw three songs out there that you enjoy. It's super easy and a great way to share something you love.
Personally, I like to have some kind of theme though that isn't always the case. This week is probably one of those exceptions. In fact, I'm not even sure how long this post is going to be. With the Thanksgiving Holiday just two days away in the US, I have a lot going on this week and finding the time to fit the extra stuff into my routine has been a bit of a chore.
My hope is that after the holiday things die down a little bit, but I have a feeling that won't be the case as Christmas will then be right around the corner. Perhaps they should have left a little more space when they were picking pagan holidays to model the new ones after!
Backseats of vehicles are an interesting thing. With our dog Jovi gone now and no kids, the back seat of our vehicles is empty more often than not. Of course, we've all heard the stories about what used to go on in the back seat of cars back in the day. I'm sure it still happens, people just don't talk about it as much maybe. Either that, or they are finding other places to do it.
With most parents working full time these days, kids probably have a lot more free time and free spaces to participate in extracurricular activities (if you know what I mean).
I was driving from work to a doctors appointment the other day and I decided that I wanted to listen to something a little different on my drive. More often than not, I have some kind of classic rock station playing, but on this occasion, I found myself settling on the "Alt Nation" Sirius/XM channel.
There was a song on by a band called The Backseat Lovers called "Kilby Girl", and I knew I needed to check out more of their stuff. I honestly thought this band was from the UK, as you will see in a bit, I was totally wrong. Actually, just about as far away from the UK as I could have been.
Either way, it really doesn't matter where they are from, I just think they have a cool sound and I really like the song that introduced me to them. As I listen to them again, I think part of what drew me to them was the use of the delay pedal during the bridge of the song. Apparently that's something that I really key in on lately...
The Backseat Lovers were formed back in 2018 in Provo Utah. As I said, if they were from the east coast of the US, I might see how I could mistake them for being from the UK. I never would have guessed the western part of the US. Like many artists these days, much of the Backseat Lovers success can be attributed to streaming.
Apparently Kilby Girl has gotten a significant amount of play on that Alt Nation channel I talked about earlier and thanks to that, the band is actually making a name for themselves. I wonder what people from back in the day would think about the avenues that are available today for making it big in the music business.
"Snowbank Blues" is a good example of one of their slower songs. I just think it has a nice sound and as the weather starts getting colder and colder here, I can't help but wonder when we are going to be surrounded by snow banks ourselves. It's only a matter of time before the flakes start falling and sticking!
Finally, I wanted to share the song "Pool House". I was doing some work in my garage this past weekend (which I will share in a later post), and I had a Backseat Lovers playlist going. I think the opening of this song might be another part of the reason I thought this band was from the UK.
I feel like there was a little bit of an accent in the spoken opening, but maybe I am just hearing things. Anyway, I think another reason why I enjoy this band so much is because they kind of remind me of The Strokes. Am I crazy or can you kind of hear it too?
Pool House is another pretty slow song and it employs that bendy kind of guitar sound in the background. Something many of you would probably attribute to Hawaiian music a little bit. This song deceives you a bit though, while it starts slow, it gets a bit dirty and grungy in the middle which I also think is really cool.
If you like what you hear, I highly suggest putting The Backseat Lovers on your watchlist. They are just that good. If they can navigate the intricacies of being in a band an sudden stardom, I think they are going to have a bright future ahead of them.

I like The Backseat Lovers, I've heard them on Alt Nation as well. They have some catchy songs, Kilby Girl was the first one I heard, great song! You chose some good ones. They aren't real well known but they have a great sound!
That's cool that someone else has heard of them. I didn't expect that to be the case at all! They have definitely earned a spot on several of my playlists!
In reality staying In the backsit is always filled with so much gist and fun, so the music will diffinantly sound the same
