For some reason fire has been a pretty big theme for me in 2025. I'm sure some might gather some deep philosophical meaning from that, but I personally just see it as a curious coincidence. Between the Canadian wildfires that were dumping smoke into the Northern US through the summer, and the countless campfires we sat around, I've had my fair share this year.
I guess the more specific theme would probably be "smoke", but I'm just going to go with "fire". Deal with it. Despite the fact that this post seems to be going in a very clear direction, I'll be the first to admit I am still dealing with motivation issues. I think a lot of it has to do with the long holiday weekend. It's tough to get back into the swing of things when you are off for four days in a row.
Even more so when you spend those four days with family and friends living your absolute best life. It kind of makes everything else seem pretty insignificant.
Like it or not, the mundane work days are just something we have to deal with to get to all the other good stuff that happens in between. We have to go "through the fire" to get to all the other stuff. It's just a fact of life and that doesn't mean you shouldn't savor those mundane moments either, but let's face it, they aren't always fun, so sometimes you just need to tolerate them.
Don't worry, I know I've already covered this before, so don't worry, this #threetunetuesday post sponsored by @ablaze isn't actually about fire. Well sort of, at least not in a general sense. As I said, I have already done that once or twice. Today, I am going to get a bit more specific. It randomly occured to me that I knew two songs with the title "Through The Fire". I figured if there were at least two songs with that title there had to be at least one more, so I did a little digging and thus the idea for this Three Tune Tuesday post was born.
Three songs, all with the same title. Pretty crazy right?
Are you ready for this?
Ah, Chaka Khan, need I say more? This song is just a classic. It's actually one that I kind of forgot about, then I started listening to some "easy listening" stations and I started hearing it a whole long more. "Through The Fire" is a really great slow song from Chaka which is a nice departure from a lot of the disco and funk type stuff that you are probably familiar with from her.
I think this song is also a really good example of just how talented of a singer Chaka Khan was. I mean if you had asked me before really listening to this song I probably would have discounted her talent. Sure, she was popular and famous, but I don't think I would have put her up as a top tier vocalist.
I've changed my mind about that now after listening to "Through The Fire".
This is actually the first version of "Through The Fire" that I was ever familiar with and it comes from what I consider one of the greatest movie soundtracks of all time. Top Gun was just so iconic and it had so many amazing songs. Sure "Take My Breath Away" by Berlin was a hit and "Danger Zone" by Kenny Loggins was unforgettable, but if you listen to the rest of the album it's all just so good.
Sadly, I don't think Larry Greene ever saw much commercial success beyond his inclusion in the soundtrack. In fact, a quick search on Google shows little to no information about him besides the fact that he was born in 1955 and passed away in 2022.
It's still just a fantastic song and if you have never heard it, I am almost jealous that you get to hear it for the first time. I also highly encourage you to go and listen to the full Top Gun Soundtrack if you haven't yet. Trust me, you won't be sorry!
Finally, I am going to leave you with a song that I have actually never heard before until today. As I was doing my research for this post, I came across the UK band Ten and their song also titled "Through The Fire". Though I have never heard of this band before, they have 16 studio albums.
I'm going to have to do a bit of digging to find out more, but I get the impression that "Through The Fire" is not very indicative of their style of music. It sounds more like the new age vein to me, but on the Wikipedia Page, they are clearly listed as an "English Melodic Hard Rock Band". Whatever that actually means.
I guess I am going to have to take a listen to find out. In fact, if I had to assign some homework to myself this week that would be part of it. Dig into Chaka Khan and Ten more.
I kind of like this theme of songs with the same name. I have a feeling this won't be the last time I do a post like this. It's been a lot of fun and it also gives me the chance to discover some new artists I may have not known in the past.
Something that I love to do!
I hope you enjoyed this theme and the songs as much as I did!
With the fire theme I keep expecting to hear Dokken! lol
Chaka Khan had some good songs but as a vocalist she wasn't the best I agree. But her songs were very catchy. I still like hearing some of them to this day.
The other two I have to say I really don't know them. Larry Greene I've heard the song from Top Gun, and the soundtrack really was phenomenal for that movie. They really did a great job!
Ten is interesting, I've never heard of them before, they must not have been big on this side of the pond. I'll have to check out some of their songs.
Great TTT!
I spent the better part of yesterday listening to Ten and they actually have some good stuff. It takes a bit of searching to find them on Spotify though.

I really liked reading your post because it felt like a mix of thoughts, music and life reflections. I get what you mean about fire being a big theme this year, it’s kind of funny how life gives us these patterns sometimes it’s just coincidence but it still feels meaningful. Spending time with family and friends for days in a row really makes going back to work harder but that’s part of life too. We go through normal days so we can enjoy those fun and happy moments more. I also like that you connected your thoughts with music. Have a wonderful day...
Thank you! I am glad you enjoyed it! Music is very important to me, so it is easy to weave it into most areas of my life.

Love the first two picks. Not familar with the third, but that's a pretty trippy song. I'll have to explore them a bit more.
Their other stuff is a lot better than this one. More of that old school rock sound you would expect from that time period.
Motivation hehe, we had another long weekend away, but that is it until Christmas apart from the day off for Thanksgiving, so yes have to really get motivated now, especially as those fluffing nights are drawing in!
Yeah, we are done with the major holidays here too until like Halloween. We don't usually get time off for that one though.
