Hustle culture is alive and well in the world these days. Perhaps it has always been there, it is just a bit more pervasive these days with the ranks of influencers we see peddling this or item or that item. Farm markets have become all the rage and natural and organic have become the buzzwords. Don't get me wrong, that's not a bad thing.
With the recent increase in the price of eggs I can't tell you how many people I have seen on Facebook buying their own chickens or who already had chickens and they are selling their stuff. I'm in a Facebook group for the community where I live and I swear just about once a week someone is looking for locally sourced honey.
Which again is a good thing, there are lots of benefits allergy-wise to buying honey that was made by bees close to where you live. @mrsbozz and I work with a lady who has started her own business. She named it after her daughter and she sells eggs, honey, maple syrup, soap, tallow hand cream and various other things. All made by herself on her and her husbands small patch of land in Michigan.
I picked up this bottle of maple syrup from her the other day for the sum of $12. Paid by Venmo of course. It's a 12 oz bottle, and that's actually not a bad price for pure maple syrup. Sure, it might be a little more than I would pay if I went to Costco, but I don't mind supporting local and paying a little more for quality. @tarazkp just wrote a really good post about that the other day...
It is time again for another Finance Friday/Friday Finance. This is a series I started where I talk about random bits of financial stuff that I have seen, gathered, or experienced during the week. I hope as a reader you find it informational, entertaining, or both. I also hope it can generate some good discussion and edify the community.

For me, HIVE is probably my biggest hustle. Sure, I do some side IT work on occasion, but it really doesn't bring me the joy that HIVE does. It's actually kind of a burden because I don't like my time not being my own. I can't tell you the number of times that I am at my real job, looking forward to just going home and relaxing, then I get a call that I have to go to a side clients to do some work.
It seems the older I get the more it annoys me. Not so much with HIVE.
Like many, HIVE isn't just a way to hopefully make money one day, it's also a nice outlet for me. @mrsbozz has taken up journaling again with a pen and paper each night. My journal is HIVE. Here for everyone in the world to read if they happen to stumble upon our tiny blockchain.
Things seem to be continuing pretty sideways as far as crypto is concerned. The BTC maxis are probably getting their kicks out of how bad alts are getting hammered. It's rough for sure.
I wrote a while ago about Travala doing their quarterly rewards for people who stake their AVA on the platform and complete some tasks. This quarter I was able to complete all ten of the tasks and I am looking forward to see how much AVA I can earn this cycle. It's not too hard to throw out a couple of Tweets and earn some extra crypto that I can hopefully one day use towards a nice trip somewhere.
There has been a lot of hype lately about Conclave Arcana. I have been involved with Splinterlands since before it was launched. I remember signing up for a KickStarter account just so I could get in on the early access. Unfortunately, I think this might be the first pack set that I pass on. I didn't put too much into Rebellion or whatever it was called and the way this early bull has been going, I don't have the funds I would like to buy a bunch of packs. Plus, I am still sitting on about 100 Chaos Legion packs that are virtually worthless now.
It's kind of disappointing. Best of luck to those who pick up some packs. I hope you pull some high foil cards.
I have heard the price of Gold is on a tear right now. It seems Silver has went up a bit as well. I had seen someone post that silver was down to something like $27 spot price. It seems that may have been an error because I went to buy some more the other day and it was up around $31 or $32. I even had permission from my wife to "buy a bunch while it is low", but I ended up holding off. Under $30 felt like a great place to buy. Over $30 felt like just a bit too much. I am thinking about creating some kind of alert on Google using Gemini or something that lets me know if the price falls below a specific price.
Is anyone in the #silvergoldstackers community doing something like that?
We are halfway through April. It's kind of hard to believe. That's all I have for you today, but I hope you have an awesome Easter weekend and I hope things turn a bit better for us in the end of April and May.
Another new Splinterlands set? I didn't buy any of the set after CL. I also have no money to buy any of those overprices packs. I just want out of the game at this point. If prices every do spike, I'm selling everything.
Yeah, conclave arcana.

Nothing like homemade maple syrup — or anything homemade! Good for you, supporting her side-hustle! 😃
Thanks! I'm still learning to like it again!
Spot price went down ($29 ish) but shops kept premiums high which effectively made the price the same since the dip was short lived... There is something kind of fishy about spot and physical I think there is a shortage of actual metal vs. paper silver which will someday be rectified. For now, I'm with you around $30 or spot deals online. I'm sick of all the greedy premiums.
I guess I will just keep an eye on it.
I love that people are starting to take control of their food needs. When you grow or prepare food for your family and/or sell to your community, quality is directly connected to your health and reputation. Its good to have these connections in the community and to support those people, since its hard to trust a lot of what is in the large supermarkets. Also find the social aspect of meeting your neighbors and supporting their businesses grows a stronger, happier community. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the great insight! I really wish we could move back to smaller communities where different members specialize in different things for the benefit of the group.
I think communities can return to this, it just takes time. I live in Vietnam now, and many people have their own special skill or product to add for the community benefit.

Gold is on fire from what I saw at the moment. Love the Hive hussle here as well and also that it has the option to fill it with as much time as you prefer
Are eggs so expensive there at the moment? Here also way pricier than before, but not as crazy as by you. Interesting that just this week a 'warning' came out here that home grown eggs should not be eaten because of the amount of PFAS in the soil. I really have some strong opinions about this one...hmmmm
I live in an area where a chemical plant dumped a lot of dioxins into the environment, so I am likely already contaminated to some degree. That does seem silly that they are discouraging people to eat homegrown eggs. They have went up to like $5 for a dozen or something like that.
Working for someone takes a lot as you grow old. We are happy we have hive where we get to be our boss(Bozz), hehe.
For sure!
It is great to support local businesses, yes it can be more expensive at times, but you are also putting money back into the local community not some multinational or foreign company.
Pure maple syrup is awesome and I have to confess to loving it!
I kind of grew tired of it when I was younger, but now I think I am starting to enjoy it a bit more. I don't mind helping out a friend too.
No, I don't do that, because I don't know how to do it, !LOL.
Will you teach me, @bozz?

I haven't really messed it it too much myself. I will have to see what I can come up with.
I'm still a manual hands-on person when I check my favorite vendor's web price on gold and silver. Using an AI price alert sounds like a cool ideal. How would you do that?
!PIMP
I'm going to have to dig into it some more and see what I can figure out.
how nice of you to recognize the effort of the locals to sell their items.
She's a pretty cool lady.
Gold and silver are getting expensive, and not likely to come down anytime soon, if ever! Glad I bought when I did. Splinterlands I'm not going to dump more money into it, they may have some improvements in SPS price but it's only because of the new cards coming out. I'm powering down some SPS and may sell it if the time looks right.
Good for you supporting local farmers markets. You get healthier and fresher items and support local business. Always a win in my eyes. More and more people have to do the side hustle just to survive these days!
Yeah, I have a feeling the price of SPS will not stay up that long. Once the pack sale is done it will likely drop back down.
That's if it stays up even that long... At any rate I'll sell at what feels like the right time.
