This is going to be a bit different kind of post for me this week. Tuesday typically means that I post you three songs that follow a similar theme. I'm still going to do that, but while the songs themselves are usually the focus of the post, today the star of the post is going to be the photos I took on one of our recent camping trips. It's still a #threetunetuesday post sponsored by @ablaze, just with a different twist!
A couple weekends ago @mrsbozz and I took a trip that I have already posted at length about. Where we went isn't really that important for this post. The fact that we made this trip alone without our regular camping buddies is what matters most. It's not that my wife and I don't talk, but I appreciate the simple comfort of just being with her without feeling the need to fill the void with chatter. She might disagree with me, but the point is, we spent a lot of time sitting around the fire in relative silence.
It was nice. Calm, intimate, and nice.
I decided to play around with my Google Pixel 8 Pro and see what I could do with the various manual modes the built in camera provides. The photo above is a long exposure photo I took. This is actually a special mode the camera has versus just adjusting the shutter speed. It's not my favorite photo of the ones I took, but it is still pretty cool.
This is another photo I took using "portrait" mode on the phone. While it turned out pretty cool, I am still not sure it is my favorite from the night. I don't like how the background and foreground seems to get grainy and kind of opaque.
This is one I took in "action" mode. I don't really know exactly what that means, but if I had to guess it probably has something to do with a short shutter speed to capture fast moving objects. Things like sporting events and that sort of thing. Probably not the best option for this situations, but I still think it turned out kind of cool.
Eventually, I started playing with some of the other settings and I ended up getting some of the best photos of the bunch in my opinion. I can't tell you what setting I was playing with specifically, but I like how the focus of the first photo is just the fire and everything else around it just seems to kind of melt away. Obviously, in the second photo I was trying some kind of long shutter speed to make the flames blend together like that.
Then of course I took things a bit too far and ended up with the photo you see above...
Eventually, I started playing with white balance I think it was and I ended up with the photos you see above. Despite the last one being pretty simple and there not being a ton of detail, it still remains one of my favorite photos. It's pretty cool how the flames are just kind of there in the darkness appearing out of nowhere.
These were the last two photos I took and I think they are kind of my favorite. There is just something really elegant about them that I love. I'm not sure if it is how the color is off just a little bit. The blue seems to be a little heavier on the last one. I should have paid more attention to the modes I was using so I could give a more accurate description here. I apologize for that.
Despite that failure on my behalf, I hope you enjoyed the photos and the tunes.
Nice shots! I think I like the one shot in portrait mode the best. This new generation of mobile phone cameras are getting insanely good, across the board. I've had fun doing a deep dive into some of the features of my iPhone 15 Pro, I'm particularly impressed by video mode. To be able to shoot in 4k from a device that fits into your pocket is a game-changer, especially with video stabilization. If they could only make a battery that lasted more than a few hours. : )
Yeah, it is crazy how good they are. There are times I look at some my landscape photos and I can't believe I took them with a mobile device. They look nearly as good as some DSLR images I have seen.
I don't think it will be long before mobile phone cameras rival DSLRs. The video capabilities are already on par with cameras costing thousands.
Those tracks were hot! 🔥🔥🔥

I agree with 100% of what you just said!
That is a very cool series of fire pictures! I am waiting for iPhone 17 to come out next month, so that my wife can upgrade her iPhone 11 Pro Max to the latest. And I am going to upgrade my Samsung S20 FE to Samsung S25 Ultra or Google Pixel 10 PRO XL. We like to do it all at once as T-Mobile has been very hit and miss during upgrades or changes to the plan so we want to do it all at once...
That makes sense. My work pays for my phone so I just upgrade when I feel like it, but my wife I need to be a bit more careful about. She has a Galaxy S21+ but her next phone will be a Pixel again. The Samsung has been nothing but frustrating for her.
Wow! The shutters are impressive. Good job and Keep it up.
Thank you!

Some fun songs today! You only omitted The Doors song "Light My Fire". lol
Jimi Hendrix is timeless, what an amazing performer that fell victim to heroine. The Black Crows are a great choice, they have such a great sound. And Mr. Mister I haven't heard in probably a decade, but very nice fit for the trio.
The fire pictures were great, I'm not good at settings either. I'm always struggling to get them right for the situation. I think it takes a lot of practice and dedication, and when it comes to photography I don't think I have it! Great job!
Thank you! I think there were a lot of directions I could have went this week, but since it was more about the photos than the music I didn't let myself get too hung up on it!
You've brought out your creativity in the art of photography. All the photos are wonderful, and each one is truly different from the next.
The same place, the same fire, but each photo was from a different place and told a different story🔥😍.
Thanks, that is definitely what I was going for!
A good camera on a phone is great. They are really after coming on in recent years. Google are very good I am seeing. I'm a Google man myself so I think I will make the switch at some stage. I am still using Keep which you recommended last year. It's good
Yeah, I still use Keep on a daily basis. It's such a game changer for me. Especially given my propensity for forgetting things. How good the camera is usually ranks pretty high on my criteria when I am looking at new phones.
I struck gold with a memecoin last year and treated myself to an iPhone pro max and the camera is unreal in it . The battery is brilliant too so it will take a lot to change from these

I've been experimenting with my phone camera too and it’s crazy how different modes can make the same thing look totally new.
For sure! The options are seemingly endless.
Fire and music is a a great theme...setting up good mood for ab perfect moments. It is surprising how the testing ends up with some nice picture, u started to appear as a profit with some of the clicks. Especially the one where you alter with the white balance.
Thanks, I really appreciate that. It's definitely one of those things that I love about camping. Fires just make everything better. Campfires anyway.
These pics and songs are very fitting. I love your writing style and your love fills this post. Really dig this!
Thank you! I appreciate that!
Cool pics and hehe I love the Pixel camera, I am forever discovering things!
And I thought you would be playing "Playing with Fire" by BLACKPINK ... knowing your penchant for some girl bands!
Never heard of them to be honest. I am going to have to check them out. I have always been impressed with the Google phones.
I never had one before, but got it for the camera and I have not been disappointed.
I love how you experimented with the different modes, each one gives the fire a unique feel!!
Thank you!
Good
