It was a great year...

I wish I could say I remember 1994 like it was yesterday. The fact is, the further away we get from it, the less and less I actually remember. There are parts that stick out to me though. Probably most specifically, I remember graduating from high school. I remember standing around outside the school after the ceremony was over and saying goodbye to all of my friends.

As my wife and I were walking through the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame a couple of weekends ago, I couldn't help but stop at the year 1994 and take some photos of the artists that were inducted that year. It was actually a really good class. I mean when you look at some of these names I think you would have a hard time not finding yourself singing at least one of their songs in your head.

As I did last week, this weeks #threetunetuesdasy sponsored by @ablaze is going to be dedicated to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class of 1994. I know that's a pretty big jump from 1988 that I covered last year, but this is my blog, so I can do whatever I want right?

Before we get to that though, let's get some housekeeping out of the way.

In case you haven't noticed, 2025 is flying by at light speed and today is already July 1st. The first of the month means it is time for #HPUD day, so I will be powering up some more HIVE today.

800 HIVE to be exact. That brings my liquid HIVE to a relatively round number and my staked HIVE just over 101,000 now. I also plan on powering up some more HIVE on my @bozz.sports account, but I will cover that in a post from that account.

While most people tend to think of specific groups when they think "rock and roll", 1994 was a exceptionally special year for individual artists. With names like Elton John, John Lennon, Bob Marley, and Rod Stewart, it's a bit hard to believe that there was room for bands to be inducted that year as well.

"You Can Make History Young Again" was recorded in 1996 by Elton John for his Love Songs album. While it isn't one of his classic songs, it is still one of my favorites of his. When my wife and I got the chance to see Elton John on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, I had a feeling this song would be a bit too obscure for him to include in the set list. Unfortunately, I was right. It was still a great show, but him playing this song would have put it over the top.

I'm not really sure why I like it, but I just always have. I think there is something about the tune that just has a mystical feel to it and while the lyrics aren't anything groundbreaking, they are still pretty poignant. I'm sure we have heard the saying about someone looking so good they could stop a clock (thanks John Cougar), but someone looking so good they could actually turn back time (ugh Cher), now that's a different level!

It's actually a shame I can only share three songs this week because there were just so many good ones in 1994. I would bet money that you are hoping to hear a song from an artist that I probably won't share. I'd be remiss though if I didn't cover The Band. I remember a long time ago when I was a younger fellow, but sometime after I graduated from high school, I enrolled in one of those clubs where you could buy CD's for a penny they they would send you one every month (BMG and Columbia House).

The trick was to write them a letter telling them that you traveled a lot so instead of them automatically sending the CD, you could get them to only send the CD if you wanted it. Most people didn't do that and usually ended up forgetting to send the disc back and getting charged.

Sorry, I got off track there, one of the disc's that I chose to buy was The Band: Greatest Hits. I really wasn't familiar with The Band, but it didn't take me long to realize just how iconic they were. "Up On Cripple Creek" is one of my favorite songs of theirs and that is the reason I shared it with you today. It's crazy to think it took them until 1994 to get inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I would have guessed they had been much earlier.

I know I made a big deal earlier about there being so many great individual artists that were inducted in 1994, but I freaking love The Animals, so I just needed to include them in my post today. Sadly, there isn't much available on YouTube to share with you from The Animals. Sure, there are multiple versions of "House of the Rising Sun", "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place", and "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood", but all of those seemed too easy.

Instead, I decided to share with you "I'm Crying" from the Ed Sullivan show. If you aren't familiar with the other songs I talked about in this section, do yourself a favor and go listen to them. I think "I'm Crying" does a good job of showing just how amazing the lead singer of The Animals was. He could handle the quiet and the growly all in the same song. There is something about his gravely voice in that specific register that I really dig. They had a sound that was a bit out of time to be honest, but quickly was picked up by many other artists.

Personally, I think the Animals were pioneers in the genre and their induction in the hall of fame in 1994 was a timely addition.

Wow, The Band looking so incredibly young I hardly recognised them, but agree, a great band. Same with Eric Burden (although his looks are so distinctive he's easy to recognise at any age), his voice was amazing.
