Harder than I thought

I'm procrastinating this morning. There is no other way around it. It's not only my first day back in the office after six days of being off (not by choice), but I am also running into a bit of a roadblock with my regular #threetunetuesday theme. This series I have been working on for the Three Tune Tuesday initiative started by @ablaze has been pretty fun so far, until today.

Today things took a turn for the worse. While California proved to be the easiest state so far giving me a veritable gold mine of options, I am having trouble finding songs for this week. Even Colorado was pretty easy to pull something together.

Then we run into the end of of the "C's" with Connecticut. I actually have been to Connecticut before. It was when I was a young boy, my parents decided to take us on a trip out to the New England States. It was probably one of my most favorite trips as a kid. Even more-so than Disney World. We drove out to most all of the states including New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine, Connecticut, New York, and probably a couple others.

I remember when I was growing up and we would travel like this I would always pick up a pennant from each state we had visited. They used to sell all kinds of knick knacks in gift shops across the country with stuff like that. My sister would collect these little state spoons, my mom and grandma collected these small souvenir thimbles, and I collected pennants. I'm sure my mom still has them in a stack at the house waiting for me to want them again and clear up space in one of the closets.

Probably the most specific thing I remember about Connecticut was a small town called Mystic Seaport. It actually has a recreation of an old whaling town complete with shops, large wooden ships, and all that sort of stuff. I often wonder how much it has changed since I have been there. I have a feeling a lot of it might remain the same given the history they are trying to capture, but who knows. @tattoodjay has been near there a couple of times, but I am not sure he has ever visited the tourist attraction.

Anyway, it's best I get to it with the music I guess. I hope you can be a little forgiving with me on this one. I'm clearly not on my "A" game today, and songs with Connecticut in the title or lyrics were insanely difficult to come by.

I got to see Ben Folds a year or so ago when he came to a local venue near where @mrsbozz and I live. She has always been a huge fan of his, so she was practically begging me to get tickets when they went on sale. I picked a couple up and it was a really fun show. It was part of his Paper Airplane Tour and I wrote a full post about it back when it happened.

I can't recall if he played "Kylie From Connecticut", but honestly, a lot of his songs sound kind of similar to me. That doesn't mean they aren't great songs, but I'm just not as big of a fan as some other people. That being said, it was still a great show. I am glad we decided to go.

I don't have a ton to say about this one other than that. It has Connecticut in the title and lyrics, so it ticks the boxes.

As I was doing my research, it was kind of interesting that while there might not be a lot of traditional songs that have Connecticut in the title or lyrics, there are quite a few rap songs that make reference to the third smallest state in the union.

While this might not be my favorite song of hers, I do like Nicki Minaj. I think she came out in a time when the world really needed a new era of female rappers. Back in the 90's we had a ton of really good ones and then things just kind of died out. Then Nicki came along as well as a handful of others and brought us the talent that many kids know and love today.

Again, I am not saying the hooks are all that innovative, I do think that Nicki can write and deliver some pretty awesome rhymes. At the very least she can weave Connecticut into a song, so there is always that...

Alright, since it is still technically the holiday season, I felt it only right to include this song by the eponymous Bing Crosby simply called "Connecticut". I honestly can't say that I have ever heard this song before, but I kind of dig it. I have always been a big fan of the whole big band style of music. This one fits really well. Plus, for this post it definitely fits the bill for both the title and the lyrics.

So there you go. Three songs with Connecticut in the title or lyrics. Somehow I have a feeling Delaware isn't going to be any kinder to me next week, but we will see...

Sounds like we are approximately the same age, but because we grew up in different countries our youth music is really different, for me it was Modern Talking, Blue System, Europe, Technotronic, Real to Real, Two Unlimited, Sandra...

I wouldn't really say any of this is tied to my youth, but I enjoy music across all genres and decades, so I don't really mind sharing some of this stuff here and there.

Your not the only one procrastinating this morning. It is cold outside, my garage is not heated, and I need to continue working on getting it straightened out.

That bomb cyclone is a nasty bugger. It hammered us hard yesterday.

We just got the cold temps and some high winds, not much else from it.

It's interesting how those childhood collections stick with us

Haha yeah, for sure!

Pennants, eh? I remember doing the same. Are pennants still a thing these days? I can't recall seeing one in years.

Gotta love Bing. Like that style of music or not, the man had a hell of a voice.

Ya they still exist.

We use them at football tournaments here in Ireland. Both teams exchange a pennant.

California is one of the hottest places with a great, warm atmosphere, although I don't know that style of music, the slightly melancholic tune reminded me of many other songs from my own music.

I liked that Ben Folds tune and dig the idea of doing a TTT per state. Great idea 💡

Bing Crosby.... Nice. Don't think I ever heard this one before.
