Green with envy

I'll be the first to admit, I am pretty jealous lately seeing some of the posts that the folks have been making the #solar tag here on HIVE. Users like @steevc, @cryptoandcoffee, @solominer, and @ksteem all have a range of setups that I have been drooling over for quite a while now. Living in Michigan, we don't really get enough sustained sunshine to justify installing it in our current house, but I could see adding the capability to our next home. With the advances in battery technology and things like that, power storage is still a viable option.

A handful of years ago, our power company installed a "smart meter" on our house. I'm sure it has a variety of uses, some of them good, some of them bad, but it allows them to give us personalized reports like this one:

image.png

The fact that our house was purchased in the early 80's and is still able to hover just about 8% above energy efficient homes is pretty impressive. Granted, it's just @mrsbozz and I. I am sure if we had kids those numbers would be greatly increased. Plus the heat dome that has been plaguing the midwest lately has likely driven our numbers up, but that is probably true across the board.

As I said though, I still like the idea of having my own array that can store energy for those times when the power goes out. After dealing with a basement flood back in late 2019 I'm always a bit paranoid about whether or not my sump pump can run or not.

We live in an area that is surrounded by farmland and there has been a lot of commotion in the community lately about Detroit Edison Energy (DTE) buying up some of that land for industrial wind and solar farms. Needless to say, there is a pretty large majority that are opposed to these solutions. Personally, I don't know all the pros and cons on either side, but I really don't want to look out the window and see a big solar farm.

In case you missed that, solar panels in my own yard or on my house are fine, a big solar farm across the street... not okay. Seems a bit hypocritical doesn't it? I think the big rub for me is that if it's mine, I get to see the benefits first hand. If it's someone else's, they get all the positives and I get all the negatives.

Plus, I still feel like nuclear power has a lot of unexplored territory yet and we are at the cusp of a big boom in clean, safe, low profile nuclear energy. That doesn't mean I don't still want some solar panels of my own!

SMR

Speaking of nuclear power, my SMR stock is still hovering close to $50 per share as of Thursday. As I have said before, there is a ton of competition in the nuclear space right now, but I think Nuscale still has a lot of room to run. At the very least it still has a lot of room to take a leisurely stroll through the park. As you might expect, given safety concerns and regulatory pieces, things don't necessarily move quickly when it comes to nuclear power.

I think once that is all out of the way we could still see a huge boom in the sector. Even bigger than what we have already seen. Quantum computers and AI aren't going away any time soon...

CHEX

My favorite RWA (Real World Asset) token CHEX (Chintai Network) has been taking a lot of heat lately. Apparently, there is a concerted effort from a small group of people associated with a competing token that have instigated a FUD campaign against CHEX.

Sadly, it seems to be working to great effect. The price of CHEX once sat close to $1 per token and this past week we finally saw it slip back under $.10 per token. It's honestly a bit mind blowing. There are obviously a large number of tokens in the RWA space and thinking that only one of them is going to be viable is kind of silly. In addition to that, once everything kicks into gear, CHEX already has many of the regulatory approvals necessary to hit the ground running.

Many people liken it to the Shopify website that allows a business to create an online presence and storefront in a matter of minutes. Imagine being able to leverage their platform to tokenize a real world asset in a matter of minutes. CHEX can do that. While these other projects will be scrambling to get the infrastructure set up and approvals gained, CHEX will be onboarding their 100th partner.

It's just crazy how much weight FUD still seems to hold after almost a decade of crypto cycles.

Colloidal Silver

I read a really great post the other day by @steemflow which you can see here. It was talking about a concoction they use in India for vaccinations and inoculation. This isn't about whether you think vaccinations are bunk or not, so don't expect much response from me if you choose that angle in your comment on this post. I do find the fact that they use gold in the mixture interesting and it made me think of talk I heard a while ago about people using colloidal silver as a health supplement.

Actually that's a pretty rudimentary statement I made there, if you want more info, you can read all about it here. I just wanted to bring some attention to this because while the #silvergoldstackers community is full of posts sharing rounds, bars, and coins people have picked up, I can't remember ever seeing a post in recent history about this use for precious metals.

In the community I work there was a guy who had blue skin, he literally looked like a smurf and I found out later it was because he regularly took colloidal silver as a supplement.

That's all I have for this week, BTC continues to test those all time highs and alts are doing whatever alts want to do. Maybe next week things will really pick up!

Happy to read that you're aware of the incoherence between yours and "the other" solar energy - and that you're thinking about it :-) Most people don't...

I grew up with windmills around me, and I perceive them as part of the landscape in northern Germany. I actually freaked out a little when I saw some here close to Loja, Ecuador, as they're hyper-efficient here in the Andes. The thing is the installation - can't get them through the mountain passes, to many curves. The parts had to be transported by helicopter. Anyway, in the great energy crisis last year, Loja was one of the few cities that had more energy available, as they were not as reliant on hydro.

Of course, there was a big hype in that time to get solar panels. Everyone got them installed. Also of course, a lot of them were shit. Although there had been a drought and some rationing the year before, the government decided to take action 1 month into the crisis - taking down tariffs on solar imports. And suddenly, everyone got a crash-course on solar energy and was declared and engineer.

Now, that the crisis is over, I'm thinking about getting a couple of modules, but the house isn't mine, so I have to find a way to make them easily removable and transportable. Energy here is so cheap, it doesn't make much sense, anyway. Would be just to have an extra when power is down - but maybe I should just get a big battery.

We have a lot of windmills to the West and east of where I live. The winds off Lake Michigan and Lake Huron make them quite effective. The rich people who live no the west coast of Michigan have been able to lobby to keep them away. Your comment about solar is one of my biggest concerns. There seem to be a lot of fly by night companies out there and it's hard to know who you can trust to get quality equipment and install services. I probably wouldn't get them if I were renting either.

A friend of mine got a huge battery thing. It stores up to 24h of energy for the households here (which usually don't consume as much as in the US, no AC and less electric devices). The longest power cuts last year were 12h straigt. I think I might rather look into that.

My family in northern Germany has solar panels. My brother says that even in winter it keeps producing, not much, but some, and that it's overall quite profitable for him. Would be even better if he had an EV as second storage device, and he's thinking about getting one. My mom is thinking about getting a balcony solar system for her place, as it faces south.

There's a myriad of benefits and possible combinations around energy production and storage. The more you dive into it, the more you'll find. But best is always to find people with experience in your area. Wishing you luck!

Amazing! Our neighbours also did it recently. There was actually a lot of chaos for them, we just inquired about it and also wanted to fit it up.!

Very cool!

A wind farm or solar farm across the street would tank your property value, and you don't want them anywhere near you... I've heard of cases where that happened and it wasn't pretty...

SMR is a great stock and I think small nuclear is the future. Unless fusion tech advances much faster than anticipated, but I think that's 50 years off at best.

Silver is awesome, I just would want to ingest it. Becoming a blue or gray man just doesn't sound like much fun. It's great for treating burns, but I'm not sure I would like it in a vaccine any more than mercury. I'll keep my silver in coin, rounds, or bar form preferably!

0.00091112 BEE

Yeah, I think that is probably what most people are worried about. I have seen some of the industrial solar farms and while they are impressive, I wouldn't want to have one across the street. Hopefully I can get out of this house before they decide anything permanently!

I would never thought solar was that viable until I really looked into it and even on over cast days it provides enough energy for the home. Definitely would look at this for the next house if I was you as there is only 2 of you and you would not need a massive system either. When we move into our next home I will go much bigger because hopefully I can then generate passive income from supplying to the grid which I cannot do here. I know you like income streams and this is ideal.

0.00091048 BEE

Yeah, I am definitely going to look into it. I think the technology has advanced enough that it is definitely viable if I can find a reliable supplier and installer.

Solar energy is becoming more popular in Nigeria, my brother generated 100 green energy leads for a client here and more than 5 % showed up and purchased the product, this showed the ever increasing interest of solar in my country, I know the US values green energy more and that's a good thing, we will catch up soon, I promise.

Very cool!

It’s easier to handle things when you own the solar farm but it’s definitely a different story when it’s not yours. Good luck with getting yours.

I know around here people don't want farm land used for Solar or Wind Farms. I think people would be cool if panels would go on roofs but I don't often see that here. In Arizona it was big but I still heard the numbers weren't great. Like 20 years for it to pay off.

I saw a woman who was blue at the gas station and wondered what mineral she was deficient or over exposed to. Maybe she did go heavy on the silver 🥈

I wouldn't be shocked if she was taking colloidal silver. I have a feeling the ROI would be much longer for me, but the peace of mind knowing I had power if the grid went down would kind of be worth it.

Wishing you the best in your solar journey, may the next house be sunnier and full of clean energy possibilities! 🌞

Thank you! Since we cut down our big maple tree, this one gets tons of sun, but there are other reasons we don't plan on staying, so I don't want to make the investment right now.

Agree not sure the Michigan skies provide enough value for large solar home coverage, but you may have also considered some of the more portable setups and a portable battery backup. This could serve multi-purpose for camping as well as some emergency power (phones, freezer, lights, etc.) for at least a little offset during power outages. That was one of our secondary goals, we typically by our meat from a local butcher rather than the grocery store, better quality and freshness, less preservatives and garbage in it. We will typically buy a quarter cow / pig and have it in the freezer. This would quickly spoil in just a day or two of no power here in hot Florida. The cost would easily be more than the portable solar and battery. It's saved our freezer meat at least twice last year from extended power outages during the storms.

0.00090482 BEE

That is a good point. We have a generator I bought several years ago and I have used that in the past. We buy a lot of our meat from the butcher too, then we vacuum seal it so we have protein ready whenever we need it. I just processed about 20 pounds of chicken Thursday night. There are a few houses around us that have solar setups, so I think it isn't totally unviable, but I am not sure if the up front expense makes sense in our current home.

It's quite impressive! Your recent addition of the BTC miner is next level genius. Too bad it wasn't ten years sooner when it was easier to mine it!

0.00000000 BEE

Thanks. Actually 10 years ago I attempted to buy an Avalon miner but was not able to at the time. And for a long time it was quite hard to find one for sale.

So glad I finally got one.
