Itās been a while since I did this. But I thought I should at least write something today since Iāve had a deeper connection with music for the last few weeks. And these days, thereās not even a particular genre I listen to. From Korean blues, to gospel hits, to regular R&B, to pop music and back to blues.
But there are a few songs Iāve been binging on, and Iāve got a friend who likes to say. āThereās beauty in sharing, Tessa,ā heād begin. āIf you like something so much, donāt you think itās wonderful that you get to share that with others?ā err, no? Faulty logic, if you ask me. Why would I want to share something I find special with everyone that may not regard it as special, or may abuse it, or even worse... Begin to criticize it (shudders in revulsion).
Either way, I still believe good music is worth sharing. The song Iām going to share is one that I have been binging on a bit for the last couple of weeks or maybe more. But I do not like it too much that I want to hoard, if that makes sense. I appreciate the song, and the artistās unique voice, and though its lyrics are not my reality by any means, thereās this comfort in the rhythm that just makes me keep listening to it. Will you, the listener I share it with, find it resonating with your reality? Well, thatās up to you.
Iām not the biggest fan of Giveonās music. Scratch that, I donāt think Iām a fan, period. But he does sing amazingly well. Maybe one of those few popular artistes who still sing about love, heartbreak and matters of the heart in general without having to objectify anyone so lewdly. I practically cringe at the lyrics I hear out there. Or maybe Iām just a prude, who knows? But yeah, Giveonās songs are great, and his voice is unique and always carry this note of sincerity and earnestness. Like each line of his song is drawn out of the very core of his being.
And that is endearing to me because itās easy for me to shift away from validating if his song relates to me, since Iām too enveloped with observing how much it may relate to him as the singer. So, instead, I just get lost in the beat and rhythm and generally how the song makes me feel. The first popular song of his I heard was Heartbreak Anniversary, and I remember it being on everyoneās lips that year. It was one of those songs I couldnāt fault even though it was insanely popular. (not something I like) And I enjoyed it for all the three thousand times I heard it on TikTok.
I havenāt listened to a song of his since.
This song, however, I heard on the status of someone on my contact list. A six second clip that featured one or two lines from the song, and I found myself immediately going to check it out. That line had that unique rhythm I usually look for in good music, and I just knew I had to listen to it. Proven an excellent choice, btw. Cause I havenāt stopped listening since. I hope you enjoy it. Or not...(The less of us who like it, the better.) Just kidding. Maybe.
