On a not so-busy-day, I just sit there and start thinking about different things. In short, I let my mind wander off to so many things especially life’s realities. How quickly we can just lose a loved one, and start learning to be someone who was loved. Especially someone who understands us the most. I haven’t experienced this before but I can imagine just how much I’d be hurt if it happens. Getting over that feeling of trying to accept that that one person is and will no longer be there with you can be daunting.
It’s another week to make a song review and today, I decided to share my review of one of Lewis Capaldi’s songs. This song was actually the first song of his that I listened to. I can’t remember the exact feelings I had that day when I listened to it first but I knew it was an emotional one. Back then, I knew little or nothing about Lewis. This song was on almost everyone’s playlist. As usual, at first, most of us thought this song was sang because he lost his girlfriend or partner but that wasn’t the case at all.
Lewis is a Scottish singer. He released this song in the year 2019. And according to him, it took him about 6 months to compose and record the song. He was inspired to write this song after he lost his grandmother according to him. Knowing the major reason behind those lyrics coming from Lewis, it makes more sense and makes it more relatable. Listening to the first verse of the song, it’s a bit hard to really understand why Lewis chose those choice of lyrics. Things only started getting clearer when he got to the chorus and also knowing why he wrote the song in the first place.
The song is titled SOMEONE YOU LOVED. From the lyrics of the song and how emotionally Lewis sang it, it’s obvious that he was really close with his grandmother and now he just had to get used to being someone she loved. That’s one of the saddest feelings because even though I haven’t experienced something like that, just by mere imagination I feel sad about it. One of the hardest realities to accept is the fact that no one will be there forever. Lewis with this song have comforted so many hearts that have felt this sadness and it was just thoughtful of him putting his emotions in a song.
I will rate the song a 8/10 and that’s because the song has just few lyrics that were repeated more than once. But for the melody and expression, I would have given it a 10/10. I don’t think there is anyone who hasn’t heard this song before but if there is, I hope you enjoy listening to it for the first time and also for those who have listened to this song before, you’re welcome, hehe.
Here’s a YouTube video of the song. Leave your comments below and tell me what you think about this song now that you know the reason behind it.
