𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝑨𝒓𝒆 𝑬𝒏𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉

We live in a world where people believe there's only one standard of beauty. It's hard to find many people who truly accept themselves just the way they are. Many people have a lot of insecurities like their skin tone, height, stature, facial structure, and the likes but I think that's why we are unique in our different way.

I met with a friend and couldn't recognize her anymore. She used to have a very sweet chocolate skin tone but suddenly she had bleached her skin and almost turned red. It was through her voice I got convinced that she was the one and I was awestruck. She felt so confident in her new skin tone and I'm wondering why she bleached. Was it to validate her beauty or to fit-in the world's standard of beauty?

Do we need to look a certain way before we can be confident in ourselves? I believe that if there was just one kind of food in the world we would have gotten so tired of eating it, that's why we have lots of varieties. Down to our outfits, languages, culture, dance style, music, fruits, jobs, gadgets and so much more because there is beauty in varieties.

I grew up in a community where the society expects so much of the girl child. She's suppose to look a certain way, eat in a certain manner, walk in a particular way, and just follow the society standard of being a beautiful lady. Why the pressure though? Some ladies starve themselves just to maintain a flat tummy, little wonder people go under the knife just to feel beautiful.

I've come across people who jokingly belittle others because of how they look, and little did they know it was having a bad effect on the victims. There are mean people almost everywhere in the world who make themselves feel good at the expense of other people's emotions.
