WOO BETA Gives the Marketplace a Bigger Stage

A Big Hello to all WOO Fans! πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³ WOO!

One of the things I am most curious about once WOO BETA launches is what happens after the packs are opened. Opening packs is obviously going to be a big part of the fun, especially with 60 new collectible talents coming into the game, but sooner or later those cards are going to start moving around. Some will stay in collections, some will be traded and some will appear on the Marketplace. That is where the Beta Marketplace upgrades could become really useful.

WOO has announced that the Marketplace is being improved with better filtering for foil, rarity and team type. It will also show card types and the individual copies that are currently listed. On the surface, that sounds like a fairly straightforward interface improvement. For anyone who has spent time looking through a growing collection, though, better filters can make a surprisingly big difference.

The reason is simple. More cards mean more things to search through.

WOO BETA will have 150,000 packs minted in total, and every pack contains five cards. That gives a maximum of 750,000 cards across the entire Beta supply. Obviously, those cards will not all be unique talents because the 60-card talent roster will be represented across the packs, but it gives some idea of how much inventory could eventually exist.

Once a collection reaches that kind of size, scrolling through everything manually is not exactly ideal.

That is why I think the new Marketplace tools are arriving at the right time. If I am looking for a particular rarity, I want to be able to filter for it. If I am specifically interested in a tag team, I want to be able to narrow the search to that type. If foil cards are something I am collecting, I want an easy way to find them.

It sounds obvious, but this is the sort of thing that becomes more important as a project grows.

The Beta collection itself also gives the Marketplace a lot more variety. There will be 21 male singles, 19 female singles and 20 tag teams. The rarity spread includes 21 Common, 22 Rare, 11 Epic and 6 Legendary cards. That gives collectors several different ways to approach the new edition.

Some people will probably want to collect as many Beta talents as possible. Others might focus on a particular rarity. Someone else may decide they are only interested in the tag teams. There will be collectors who simply want the wrestlers they personally like, regardless of rarity.

That is one of the fun things about a collectible game. There does not have to be one definition of a good collection.

The individual wrestler pages should also help with Marketplace decisions. WOO is adding information such as the total number of copies owned, wrestler record, lowest Marketplace ask and the number of copies listed. There will also be details covering Level, progress, TP, Exhaustion, individual win and loss records, injuries, protection, Marketplace status, delegation status and NFT ID.

That is a pretty substantial amount of information for one card.

For me, the lowest Marketplace ask and number of copies listed are particularly useful because they give a little more context when looking at an individual wrestler. Instead of simply seeing a card and a price, you can get a better idea of how many copies are currently being offered and what the lowest listed price is.

Of course, none of that automatically tells you what a card is worth. That is still something the market has to determine. But having better information makes it easier for players to make their own decisions.

I also like the fact that the Marketplace improvements are being announced alongside the new collection rather than being treated as something that can be fixed later. Beta is bringing a much larger number of talents into WOO, so the infrastructure around those cards needs to be ready for them.

The same principle applies to the Collection page. WOO is improving navigation across Talent, Land, Lore, Items, Consumables and Injuries, while adding collection totals and filters. Again, this might not sound as exciting as a new Legendary, but these are the features that can make the difference between a collection feeling manageable and a collection feeling like a mess.

As someone looking at WOO from the fan side, I actually enjoy seeing this kind of development because it suggests the focus is not only on creating more things to collect. There is attention being given to what players will actually do with those things after they collect them.

That matters because a collectible card has more potential when there is an ecosystem around it.

The card can sit in a collection, but it can also be compared with other cards, listed on the Marketplace, tracked through its wrestler page and potentially used as part of the wider WOO experience. The more useful information players have, the easier it becomes to understand where each card fits.

The Beta sale structure also adds an interesting element to this. The public sale lasts for 90 days or until the 135,000 public packs sell out. That means the Marketplace activity will develop alongside the pack sale rather than appearing only after everything has finished.

People will be opening packs throughout the sale. Some will keep their cards. Some will likely start looking for specific talents. Others may decide to trade or sell cards they do not need.

That creates a potentially interesting cycle.

A new pack gets opened, a card enters someone's collection, another player wants that card, a listing appears, and suddenly the card has a life outside the original pack.

I think that is one of the more enjoyable aspects of a collectible ecosystem. The pack opening is the beginning of the story, not necessarily the end.

The new filtering system could make that secondary activity much easier to follow. If the Beta Marketplace becomes busy, being able to narrow things down quickly will be important.

It also makes the individual wrestler pages more useful because players can make decisions with more information. If I am looking at a wrestler, I can see the number of copies listed, the lowest ask and the wrestler's game information. I can then decide whether that particular card is something I actually want.

The key word for me is choice.

WOO BETA is giving players more cards, more talent types and more rarity levels to choose from, and the Marketplace is being upgraded to make those choices easier to navigate.

That may not be the loudest part of the Beta announcement, but I suspect it will become one of the most useful once the collection starts growing.

The real test will come when the Marketplace is filled with Beta cards and everyone starts looking for their favourites. That is when we will see whether these improvements really make a difference.

Personally, I am looking forward to that part of the Beta experience. Opening a pack is exciting, but finding that one wrestler you have been looking for among a much larger collection can be just as satisfying.

Well, that's it for today. We will continue again tomorrow! 😁 WOO! πŸŽ‰
