Maybe Everyone Is Waiting for Their Next Show
A Big Hello to all WOO Fans! 🥳🥳🥳 WOO!
I have another theory about why WOO can sometimes become strangely quiet on the weekend. Maybe everyone is actually busy deciding what to do with their next Ranked Show. With the new Async system, there is now a little more thinking involved before simply jumping into a match. You can create your own Show, choose your lineup, lock in the cards and then leave it waiting for somebody else. That gives players something to prepare even when there is no official weekend event happening.
I have gotten some feedback that reminders are pretty useful when it comes to the regular events held in WOO. So here I am again with a quick reminder for any upcoming events.
I quite like the idea that a quiet WOO Discord does not necessarily mean a quiet WOO game. There could be players sitting at home, looking through their wrestler cards and deciding which lineup they want to commit. Someone might be trying to build a balanced team, while another player is probably wondering whether their favourite wrestler belongs in the lineup even if the numbers are not perfect.
Then there is the question of who will challenge it.
That is probably the most entertaining part for me. You create your Show without knowing who will eventually appear on the other side. You cannot browse through a list of opponents and pick the easiest-looking match. If an eligible Show is waiting, WOO uses its FIFO system to connect a Challenger with the oldest eligible Show they did not create.
So there is a little bit of fate involved.
Maybe that is exactly why WOO does not need to force a special weekend activity every single week. The Ranked system already gives players a reason to keep checking back. A Show might be waiting. Your own Show might have been challenged. A new opponent might be sitting somewhere in the system with a completely different strategy from the one you expected.
And because the two players can be online at completely different times, the weekend becomes almost like a relay race. One person creates the Show, another person comes along later, and eventually the two lineups meet. Nobody needs to coordinate a Saturday night appointment just to make it happen.
That seems particularly useful for a game with players spread across different time zones. While one person is finishing their day, somebody else could just be starting theirs. WOO can connect those players without asking either one to change their schedule.
So perhaps this weekend is not really quiet at all. Perhaps it is simply a weekend where everyone is quietly preparing their next move. I can live with that.
There is something quite fun about opening WOO after a few hours away and discovering that the Show you left behind has finally been answered. You did not know who would take the challenge, you did not know when it would happen and you did not have to wait around for it.
You just built the Show and let WOO do the rest. Maybe that is the weekend plan after all. Less noise, fewer announcements and a whole lot of mystery waiting behind those Ranked cards.
TLDR: This is a reminder to all my readers (and WOO fans) that baring any last minute sudden surprise events, this weekend should be a relatively quiet one. 😜
Well, that's it for today. We will continue again tomorrow! 😁 WOO! 🎉
