Homesteading - Update from our Groundnut and Maize farm

Good day to everyone and welcome to my blog. Today’s post is about Homesteading, if you remember sometime back about a month ago, I made a post right on this community about us getting the lands ready and how we planted some groundnuts and I also talked about our intentions to grow maize?, well today I got the opportunity to revisit the farm and as I promised, I’m going to update you on how the both farms are doing.

I first passed through the maize farm to see how they turned out because sometimes due to not selecting the right seedlings, the crop might not yield a better harvest. You can sometimes pre determine if you are going to have a great harvest or not by looking at how broad the leaves are or the color of the the maize plant is also an key indication of wether you will get a bumper harvest or not.

So when I visited, I noticed quite the opposite of all the negative aspects I just stated above. That is their leaves were very broad, and the green color of the maize was very deep which means we are on the right track to a big yield. One thing I noticed was the maize seem to have grown closer together.

If you look closely you can see that they don’t really have much space to walk through, this could be a problem because when they grow they would become much bigger and hence air wouldn’t be of circulation again. So I need to do something I took a few of the maize out to create room. It’s just like the saying “killing a few for the greater good”.

Next up, I passed through the groundnut farm nothing much to report from there because most of them have started to bloom yellow flowers. This is an indication that they groundnut underneath has started developing. I walked through to see if the was any need to remove some of the groundnut in other to create any space for the circulation of air and water. But it looked good.

Just a few distance away from the groundnut, we tried okro to see if it would work when we do it on a large scale the next coming season and so far so good, they look like they are doing good. Big broad leaves, deep green color pigment and a lot of them seem to have germinated. I would keep you still updated Incase anything comes up thanks for reading.
