One comfy outfit I never get tired of wearing are shift dress, if you are wondering what a shift dress is, it is a dress that's not too fitted on the body, yet you look fit in it, they are comfortable to wear and the fun part is they come in different designs If you are like and like your skin to have ease and some comfort while putting a stylish dress, shift dresses are your best bet. They are also flexible as they can easily blend in as formal or casual wear depending on the fabric used or the chosen design.
Today, I will be sharing with us how I made a shift dress, using a plain and patterned fabric. It took me about 3 hours to make this dress from start to finish as it is one of the easiest dress to make.
Materials/ tools used
Tape rule, scissors, and my sewing machine.
PROCESS
Step 1
I started by drafting the front pattern, half of the front is plain fabric while the other half is ankara fabric.
Step 2
I also drafted the back pattern, which is a combination of both plain and patterned fabric too.
Step 3
I joined the front patterns together and mark out where I want the pockets to be placed
Step 4
Next, I drafted the pocket pattern and sewed them on the front dress pattern interchanging them, plain on pattern and vice versa, I also turned the neckline of the front using a facing.
Step 5
I joined the back pattern to get her to form one piece, and also turn its neckline.
Step 6
I drafted a basic sleeve pattern, stopping just right before the elbow, also one is plain, while the other is the patterned fabric.
Step 7
I joined the front and back dress together by the shoulders, also by the sides, and hemmed the base before finally attaching the sleeves matching plain to plain, and patterned fabric to its like part.
This brings me to the end of this DIY process, and here is my beautiful shift dress.
What do you think of this style and design, would you rock a shift dress, do you have one, are they also your favorite comfy dress? Too many questions already haha 😂 just let me know in the comment section. I had fun making this simple yet stylish dress, I hope you did too following me through the process of making.
